Biography
BLACKMALE is rap’s next mogul, unapologetically jacking the torch from those who came before him, and beating a new path through rap’s rugged terrain with his new album It Is What It Is (All My Soul Records, 2007). Finally, a hard core lyricist is reclaiming the game, taking us on a bipolar roller coaster ride, from the thoughtful inner fury and outward rage that come with being BLACKMALE in America, to the slick-talking celebration of material excess and the stunting out of control that come with being BLACKMALE in America.
BLACKMALE was born and raised in DC/Maryland but he isn’t defined by geography – a rolling stone, wherever he lays his gat is home. He started his career in a place you find many black males - behind bars. He had everything he needed – a pen and pad, his mind, and a rhythm that he beat out on his chest with his fists. When he heard himself ride that beat, he knew this was what he was made to do. His original sound generated a buzz in the rap world with the release of his first single “My Click,” making it known that he stands alone, and he’ll take on anyone in the game.
BLACKMALE is legendary for his elaborate verbal jousting, concocting poetry out of the disjointed words in his head and giving a voice to our greatest ambitions and our darkest, most disturbing thoughts. You can’t help but hang on his every word, and find when he’s done that he mystified and taunted you to the point of deeper understanding, and you feel like you’ve been schooled. And it’s not just what he says, it’s how he says it, and how he makes his voice another instrument in the musical composition. Rarely do you find a rapper who can make you think and move at the same time. His sound influences your thoughts, controls your mind and permeates your soul – you don’t just hear him, you feel him.
