Alvin Butler: I am from Montgomery, Alabama and I’m 19 years old. I am the youngest of four children and the only boy. I was raised by a single mother after my father died when I was 4 years old. I am a solo R&B artist but have recently teamed up with my sister who’s a rapper known as “LADYFI”. I write and arrange my own music and design mine and my sister’s performing outfits. I play trumpet and French horn and I song in the school’s choir for 3 years. I’ve been singing R&B and inspirational music for the past five years.
One of the main reasons I chose to go into the music business, (other than my love for music), is because I want to show the younger generations that you don’t have to walk around with negative images, “gang-banging” or selling drugs in order to shine. God said, “He gave us all a gift”, and I feel my generation needs to be encouraged to aspire for theirs.
Algenae Butler: I am from from Montgomery Alabama and I am 23 years old. I am a solo artist but have recently teamed up with my brother DIGI-DOO (pronounced DIGGIE-DO), who’s an R&B singer. I have been performing locally and around the southern region and am now ready to move to another level in my music career. I am now seeking a recording contract. I write my own songs with hopes of learning to arrange and produce one day. My ultimate goal is to bring some new “flavor” to the music industry. Through my music, I hope to help teach our young the necessity for self-respect, self-esteem and simply how to just love themselves, especially young girls. I feel that music should be a positive instrument in reaching our younger generation.
But I too, have been guilty of having some unwholesome lyrics in my music, but being a parent and a Christian, I realize that it's not always best to go along with the majority. I also realized that my kids would not be able to sing nor listen to their own mother’s music. This was really an eye-opener for me and gave me the courage and the strength to separate myself from the “majority”. We as artists have got to wake up and understand that kids are going to sing these lyrics, watch our videos, and imitate what they see us do. Therefore, we must keep it clean and send positive, motivational, and constructive messages.
