Biography
I’ve been playing acoustic guitars ever since High School. I also hung out in Berkeley and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BS degree. My minor was hanging out at the Keystone Tavern on University Ave and listening to great music such as regulars: John Lee Hooker, Jerry Garcia, the Greg Kihn Band. I started writing songs while sitting on a bench in La Loma Park in the Berkeley Hills. I haven’t recorded those songs yet. From what I remember, I had a good time in California. I later returned to Berkeley on a more serious note and received my Master of Social Welfare degree. I am an Alaska Native from the Haida Tribe. My grandmother Dorothy Wallace, daughter of master carver John Wallace, grew up in Hydaburg, Alaska. My grandfather was Douglas Edenshaw, Massett B.C., son of Henry Edenshaw and grandson of Chief Albert Edward Edenshaw.
The songs on this webpage were recorded at Jeff Tassin's studio in Manchester, WA on March 24th and 25th, 2007. I wrote all the songs and played acoustic guitar on my handmade Paragon guitars on the recordings and played harmonica at the same time on some songs. Jeff played drums, guitar, bass and mandolin. Jeff is a 3-time Emmy winner and is listed as the world's best guitar player on garageband.com.
Live, I play by myself for the most part but after hearing my songs come to life with other instruments, being in a band might be fun in the future. I just relesed a CD called Soggy Old Town. The CD can be purchased at www.barbarianmusic.com/randy .
I have about three other CD’s worth of songs to record in the near future. This CD contained my native songs, such as Indian Time and Haida Gwaii is Calling and Riding on the Wings of a Raven. I hope you check back from time to time to hear new stuff. Thanks for reading this; I appreciate you taking the time.
