Type: Internet Event Description: "Songs In The Key Of Love" A book of song lyrics and Poetry by Rick Ellis will be released on May 15, 2007.
The book, which is currently at the printers, contains seventy-five compositions that Rick has written over the last thirty years. About half of the compositions are song lyrics and the other half are poems. I have written thousands of songs and poems over the last thirty years and it was very difficult to select just seventy-five. If the book is received favorably and I don't end up losing too much money in production costs then I will likely release a second volume of song lyrics and poetry in about a year. Signed copies of "Songs In The Key Of Love" may be purchased for $10.00 plus shipping. Please request your copy by emailing me at RickHotfingers@hotmail.com

Type: Album Release Location: To Be Determined Description: Scheduled official release of Rick Ellis' new CD "Guns and Bibles. Fifteen new songs. The most serious songs I have written since I released "Cardboard Boxes" in 2000.
Excerpt from "OC Music Tomorrow", 3/15/07
On "Guns and Bibles" Rick makes a departure from the kind of material that has been on his last three albums. Rick is primarily known by his fans as an incredible acoustic guitar player. On "Guns and Bibles" he mixes his acoustic guitar work with some electric guitar offerings that has already left this reviewer, who was able to get a hold of an advanced copy of the CD,in awe. On "Guns and Bibles" Rick plays acoustic six and twelve string guitars, electric guitars, acoustic and electric bass guitars, piano, electronic keyboards, various percussion instruments, harmonica, and he does all of the lead vocals and most of the harmony and backup vocals. He played all of the instruments except for the drums which he utilized the services of some great local drummers to fill that bill. Rick wrote each one of the fifteen songs on the record. An accmplished lyrisist and songwriter, Rick has set a new standard for himself on "Guns and Bibles" which is also the title track on this release. I saw Rick at the Marlin Club six months ago where he was "trying out" some of the new album material on the crowd. I have followed Rick for about the last ten years and have always considered him to be one of Orange County's best kept secrets, but he burned the house down that night and after "Guns and Bibles' hits the streets later this year I predict that Rick "Redshoes" Ellis will not be secret any longer. "Guns and Bibles" is on track to be released late this summer or early fall."

Biography
Rick Ellis
Singer/Songwriter
http://www.songsinthekeyoflove.mysite.com
Rick Ellis (ASCAP), a resident of Huntington Beach, California, is an award winning songwriter, musician, poet, author and performer. Rick is not only a master storyteller who writes well crafted songs, but also an amazing musician whose music is not only heard, but also deeply felt by the listener. His music could almost be described as being in a genre by itself. It’s just not possible to classify his songs simply as acoustic, rock, blues, country, folk or anything else. Rick writes songs that elicit a tremendous range of human emotions. Funny songs that will keep the listener laughing long after the song is over, happy songs where the listener can’t help but sing along, sad songs that can fill the tear ducts of even a hardened man, love songs written by a man who truly knows the depth and meaning of love, blues that could have only been penned by a songwriter who has suffered a shattered heart, songs about life, good and bad, political songs, spiritual songs, dark songs that takes us on personal journey’s to the deepest corners of our minds, sexy songs that may leave the listener craving a smoke. Then there are the acoustic instrumentals that will entice even the most accomplished musicians in the audience to raise their Bic lighters to the sky in appreciation and even admiration. Songs that you can’t put a label on, but you go home humming. Songs that you find yourself thinking about the next day and the next. Rick Ellis Songs.
A multi-instrumentalist, Rick has played in numerous bands and as a solo performer since the age of seventeen and his reputation as a virtuoso guitarist has led to considerable session work, over the years, with many artists representing a wide range of musical genres. He is highly regarded as an acoustic guitarist and plays a variety of both acoustic and electric guitars. Anyone who has never been so fortunate to see or hear Rick play his signature, finger-picked, twelve string slide guitar will be in awe of what he can do with that instrument. Those who have witnessed it will never forget it. It is absolutely amazing. Rick has also mastered the harmonica. When he slips his neck holder over his head and begins to play the blues even die hard blues hounds are blown away. This incredible, multi-talented artist deservedly gets standing O’s wherever he plays.
Rick’s main focus these days is on writing, recording and licensing his music to music publishers as well as writing and licensing original soundtrack music for independent films, movies and television. To date over twenty film and television productions have featured his music.
Rick has recorded and released three albums of original music. Corporate Ethics (Surf City Records) in 1997, Perry’s Lantern (Redshoe Records) in 1998 and Cardboard Boxes (Winterwood Productions/Casual Records) in 2000. He is currently working on his fourth album as a solo artist. The self produced album entitled Guns and Bibles is scheduled for release in the summer of 2008. Rick recently authored his third book published by Lulu Press entitled Songs In The Key Of Love, Volume One, a collection of song lyrics and poetry.
Rick is very humble about his talent. It is difficult to get him to talk about his music. He is not into self-promotion, he dislikes the business side of the music business and h erarely deals with agents, managers, accountants or lawyers. Maybe that is why he may be Orange County’s best kept secret and undiscovered talent. When you go into his studio you won’t find the typical array of awards hanging on the wall or pictures taken of Rick with big name stars. There are no plaques, no trophies, no CD’s in gold plated frames in sight. By all appearances you would never know that this man is a major talent… Until he straps on a guitar. Then, like the quiet gunslinger of the old west, Rick lets his actions, his playing, do his talking for him and that voice is loud and clear.
Some of Rick’s songs have been acquired by music publishers, and it’s just a matter of time before his music is recorded by major recording artists. Rick has received numerous awards and critical acclaim for songwriting including two Great American Songwriting Awards, two John Lennon Songwriting Awards, two International Songwriting Awards and an award from The National Foundation For Advancement In The Arts. Rick’s song lyrics and poetry have been acclaimed by The International Open Poetry Foundation, he received The Presidents Award from The International Society of Poets four consecutive years, and the Editor’s Choice Award from The International Society of Poets three consecutive years. In 2006 Rick was inducted as a Poet Fellow by the prestigious International Poets Fellowship and in 2007 the lyrics to the song A Perfect Storm was chosen by the highly respected League of American Poets for publication in the award winning anthology series Voices – A collection of short works. There are, undoubtedly, more awards and recognition that Rick has received over the last twenty years or so, but he probably would not tell you even if he could remember what they are. It doesn’t matter. Five minutes into one of Rick’s sets and you will be asking yourself why this guy isn’t already famous.
