A little bit about Rod Fritz.

I’m now half way through my 3rd album. With four more songs to record and a final mix and master to be performed on all songs the project will finally be complete.

Generally I write songs that affect me. Songs such as “nothing good happens anymore”, “Green Grass” and “superman Song” were written because of what I see happening around me especially the content of today’s media. I find it disturbing and have a feeling of unease when so much negative information is portrayed in such a vast manner. I am in fact a genuinely happy person who needs to moderate how much negativity I am willing to be subjected too.

I also write from personal experience especially when it pertains to matters of the heart. Songs such as “Sorry”, “True to You” and “Fuck You” are blunt and straight forward rarely leaving anything for the imagination. My songs are generally simple three cord progressions and my melodies are generally achieved by repeating those chords until something pops into my head.

I also find that I am prolific in my song writing and will in fact write 10 songs for every one I decide to keep. Unfortunately those that do get discarded are generally lost over time and irretrievable.

I record my songs with a group of people I have known for quite some time. Recording is a fairly simple process involving me to present my song, on the night, to the group and then essentially jamming a few times to get a particular type of groove, having a discussion about certain ideas and then simply hitting the record button. I sing and play acoustic in the same room with the bass player whilst the drummer has a separate room and the lead guitarist sets his amp in the hallway and plays whist operating the console as well. Unfortunately this does not leave much room for fixing any errors that may occur.

I tend to find this way I retain the essence of the song for which it was originally intended. I also like the raw, live sound and pride myself on the fact that the songs sort of work without the need of any effects. At this stage backing vocals are not a part of the equation however I will revisit this idea prior to completion.

Once again what you are listening to at the moment is the raw take with a very rough mix and master. I am expecting the final product to be slightly more polished.
