MY INFLUENCES INCL. AEROSMITH, ALICE COOPER, BLACK CROWES, LEANN RIMES, EMINEM, KID ROCK, CROSS CANADIAN RAGWEED,KEITH URBAN, MANY, MANY MORE.. I AM NOT BOUND OR HUNG UP IN A PARTICULAR "GENRE".
It all started when I went to a KISS concert. I told my parents to go on a vacation with the college money, my heart and soul and life has been intensely committed to music from that day forward. I listen and have studied (home studied that is) ALL types of music from Rock, Rap, R&B, Christian, Country, Classic Rock, now even listening to Classical, thanks to a Darlene Miller--check out her Showcase!
I started a band in early '80s and actually got a band together in Huntington Beach! Played at Gazzaris (met up with a couple guys - Stephen Pearcy of NOW Ratt and Tommy Lee NOW of Motley Crue. Well long story short, I brought a girl TO LA, so back to Georgia we came.
I continued writing , writing, writing...I then was BLESSED to gain the best of his talent, taking them from their current bands. These are the musicians you hear on my showcase - a sample of what I've done. "Love Me Avenue" was born. We had the look of the eighties semi-glam bands. We were written about in the paper and described as a mix of Janes Addiction, Alice and Chains and Pink Floyd, but we became too heavy to be called cute LOL!
In 1992, I witnessed a Ministry show, saw Al Jourgensen. In 1992 Scarecrow was born, inspired by the song by Ministry song of the same name
My guitarist, Melvin Davis was stolen from a band while he was on stage, the genius married his guitar - we still play and write together ALWAYS MAGICALLY COMPOSING PERFECTION - some things were meant to be. My bass player, Jeff Fortin, started on classical violin, played a few bad basses - fretless, of course-4,6 strings, and is now a rep. for Alesis. My drummer, Tim Helton, I stole from Hallows Eve.
These 3 geniuses and myself started an entirely new scene that had no "genre". It wasn't 3 months and we were known across the state, every club in Atlanta knew of us and booked us..BIG shows!! Headlining and opening for bands such as Type O Negative, GWAR, LIfe of Agony, etc etc... It was a step away from signing on with a major record label..Marilyn Manson canceled a show we canceled. We went through a few drummers - we did get our orig. back, bass players, etc.. recorded 3 CD's, several tapes, sold merchandise..we had arrived.
Then it came down to the agreements. I worked too hard and wrote too many songs and put my band through way too much to settle, I was told my wife couldn't go on the road with me..so, I didn't sign that contract..my guitarist then moved out to California for a while, bassist left Guitar Center and worked with Gibson then Alesis, Tim went to work for Yamaha. I have a wonderful wife that encourages me and has the same passion for music as I.
I continue to write and have recorded some still with my ever faithful guitarist, that came home from Cali. after 4 years.
THIS LIFE IS ALL I KNOW, ALL I WANT TO KNOW, REALLY. No, I am not going quietly..
