Biography
Native-e-Music Award 5-time nominee and winner Andy Mason, ("Mainstream Song of the Year", for "The Battle Raging") is a First Nations singer/songwriter/actor/multi-instrumentalist, who released a CD entitled " Long Walk 49", presently on rotation on Aboriginal Voices Radio, www.aboriginalradio.com on the internet, and in several cities in Canada, and also www.NativeRadio.com
He began singing at a very young age, teaching himself drums at six, and later tried to learn songs on the piano. An older brother gave him a Rickenbacker guitar in 1979, and he began teaching himself in earnest. Soon he was playing piano and guitar, original, Stevie Wonder and Supertramp songs for his high school in rural southern Ontario. Eventually moving to Toronto, another older brother introduced him to the coffeehouse scene. Before long, he was acting in theatre, (K.Y.T.E.S, and for A.N.D.P.V.A.) and playing some clubs. Soon after he helped form a CSNY tribute with John Law, (of the award-winning duo The Laws, (www.reverbnation.com/thelaws) the late Jim Cummins (b.1962, d. 1994), and Johnny "Lightning" Ransom. They played Ottawa area and around Ontario and Quebec for several years. After the break-up of the band, he moved to B.C. He then produced what you hear here, from the full-length CD "Long Walk 49", with the help of David Roy Parsons, (www.myspace.com/davidroyparsons) with whom he co-founded a small production company, called Raven Hymn Productions. He also sang and played on several of David Roys' songs, and Dr. Joey Only's first full-length CD, Radical Folk of the Great North www.myspace.com/xjoeyonlyx
His music is both folksy and heartfelt, a blending of many styles, like three aliens from different galaxies making babies, only the babies are songs, existing in an alternative universe of love...some of the same as well as other songs can be heard at www.myspace.com/andywmason Andy also has a lot to say, so much so that he has started a blog, using his fledgling songwriter/publishing company name, Andson Music as his moniker. It can be read and commented on by clicking: andson49.blogspot.com
