Listen and see where no Guitarist has gone before in the story of Jazz Guitar or Funk Guitar: Unbelievable! Amazing! Incredible!!! I was stunned when I saw Wayne's live guitar solo (I was at the show on January 2005). NO OVERDUB, NO SAMPLERS, NO TRICKS, NO TAPING but an old Gibson Guitar normally tuned in EADGBE and an old Amplifier. (see video and listen to Solo Album JazzPot recorded in one go in May 2002. I was there) For instance in his latest album "Fusion Jazz" where he plays on a Fender Stratocaster Guitar one can hear a low bass sound still tuned in EADGBE, together with a solo and accompaniment, but there is no bass since it's all being done by himself simultaneously (as usual). This time the E and A strings are one pitch lower while the dgbe strings are on normal pitch.(Listen to Album "Fusion Jazz" (I was also in the Recording Studio in July 2006) Here is a summery of his history: Born in West Kensington, London, England, Guitarist John Phil Wayne started to learn guitar at the age of 12 and has pursued a career as a Jazz Solo Guitarist since 1961 and at 17 became professional with work through the years as an International Concert Musician, Composer and Conductor/Arranger. He wrote and performed a series of Film Music for the M.G.M., Warner Tamerlane etc. with Orchestras like the Paris Opera Orchestra and British Symphonia Orchestra as a Conductor, while being a session musician and sideman for lots of Jazz and Pop Stars like Count Basie, Tom Jones, David Bowie, Stephane Grappelli, John Lee Hooker etc… But it was as a Jazz Solo Guitarist that he revealed his true Genius in the early 70’s, since he could simultaneously play and record in one go all aspects of a Jazz Composition or Standard Melody, Rhythm, Chordal Harmonies, Bass lines, Drums/Percussions on the Guitar without any tapping Method, Gadgets, Synthesizers or Overdub. Along with his amazing musical performances, John Phil Wayne has contributed Articles to National and International Magazines and Newspapers. He has been Honoured in the U.S.A. as Best Solo Guitarist (with First Prize In Jazz) for 1980-82, with Nomination, as well, to nearly a Dozen Biographical Reference Publications and as an Outstanding Man Of The 20th and 21st Century, including a Gold and a Platinum Record as Best Arranger and Jazz Solo Performer of the 80’s/90’s/2000’s. Yet he remains Unsurpassed as The Most Amazing Jazz Solo Guitarist Of Our Time and is being called “THOUSAND HANDS”.
