Biography
When discussing talented producers in the Canadian music industry, the name Anwan Ekpo is always mentioned by anyone who has ever heard his work. Brilliance. Anwan has an unquestionable talent when it comes to making music people can feel. He knew earlier than most that music was going to play a major role in his life. Like most young boys, Anwan’s major concerns were school and sports. He also played the piano and later on taught himself how to play the guitar, however growing up in a household where music was a constant he took advantage of his access to crates upon crates of records. It became one of his past times, and little did he know at the time that this particular hobby was going to prove to be his most important. He had access to a wide variety of music, and all of these genres ultimately became the soundtrack to the rest of his life.
Anwan went to Blackburn, England and was welcomed with a rare opportunity to work at Flu Boys Studio with Craig “Keys” Manton--former member of renowned group The Dust Brothers. Until then, Anwan was only experimenting with sounds, using sequencing equipment along with different keyboards. However, this trip to England is when Anwan learned how to put it all together, it’s where he became more familiar with state-of-the-art equipment, it’s where he rightfully earned his ‘Producer’ title—it’s where his first track Sometimes (an electronic dub mix) was born.
Anwan pushed forward in the music industry. He returned to Canada where his talents preceded him. Soon after he was asked to be one of two who would become the production team known then as Buddah Brothas. While a member of this duo, Anwan continued to rise. He made tracks that forced artists to seek him out. Even if only to mix and arrange their completed tracks—artists called Anwan. With his uniqueness and his ability to fearlessly blend genres, they knew that anything he put his hands on would be greatness. His high standards have a powerful impact on most, so artists wanted to work with him, they wanted his ‘ear’ and they wanted his sound.
The demand for this sound now overwhelming, Anwan knew he’d done all that he could under the Buddah Brothas name, so it was inevitable that the duo would split. Immediately after, Anwan began his own Music Production and Sound Design company—EASE Music Entertainment. To no one’s surprise, under this new name Anwan continued his success. Locally and internationally artists and multi-media companies continued to solicit his production and sound design skills. He has lent his talents to a wide range of products--from television commercials to films, radio ads to scoring exercise DVD’s, from demo tapes to completed tracks for purchase—Anwan’s creations can be heard as songs and sounds. To date, his material has been licensed in the Canada and the U.K., and he has done sound design work for major Canadian and U.S. multi media companies. And the list goes on…
While making sure EASE stays a success, Anwan continues to cultivate his, organic sounds, for the masses.
