Jay was born in Bethpage, NY and moved to Greenville, NC in 1989. He has been working on music since 2001, starting off by looping various hip-hop samples and instrumentals. He then began prouducing, using Frooty Loops. Later, he starting using Propellorhead's Reason and perfecting his craft. His influences include the legendary Jay Dee a.k.a. J. Dilla, Pharrell, Hi-Tek, and Kanye West. As far as the influences on the MC side, they include: Black Thought (of The Roots), Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, Brother Ali, Pharoahe Monch, Ghostface Killah, and Redman.
After getting into producing, he began writing songs in about 2002. UnifiDivision was formed around 2005, and consisted of members Big See, Brown, Rocon, and Jay Lew. In 2007, The 25 Truth was formed, consisting of: QB, Big, Train, Jay Lew, 4 Fifth, B-Wax, and Kenny. The group released it's first Mixtape (Game Over) in December of 2007 and looks to release a mixtape monthly.
During the summer of 2007 Jay returned to
Soundclick and linked up with producer
Jae DiAMONDZ, and it's been a wrap ever since. DiAMONDZ is producing Jay's current project.
At the start of 2008 Jay Lew made an important move from Greenville to Greensboro, NC. Now collaborating with Niqkewayz and Catastro, big things are just around the corner
