Biography
Donnie's Portal seeks to alter the typical understanding of what constitutes electronic music by placing its own unique stamp on the genre. Since 1993, Donnie's Portal (formerly known as Supernova Eclipse) has been an evolving experiment. Throughout the years, its sound has shifted somewhat from traditional dance to more sweeping, melodic soundscapes. The one man act also began incorporating lyrics into what used to be predominantly instrumental tracks.
Although Donnie's Portal attempts to defy traditional musical subcategories, it draws influences from motion picture soundtracks as well as electronic pioneers such as Paul Van Dyk, Erasure, Enigma, Paul Oakenfold, Massive Attack, Delerium and Trent Reznor. It also draws from rock influences such as Linkin Park and Stabbing Westward.
Donnie's Portal emphasizes feeling and atmosphere over flare and complexity, invoking a chilled-out sound that diverges from most mainstream synth-based music. Donnie's Portal incorporates Yamaha, Korg, Emu and Roland synthesizers, and computer software such as Cubase, Reason and Voyetra Record Producer to create its sound.
Donnie's Portal's lyrics are simple yet heartfelt, emphasizing ideas revolving around basic human emotions such as love, hate and loneliness.
