Biography
Militia was the name of a record company that four friends planned to form. The founding members, N'namdi DeSilva, Akil DeSilva, Yohan Popwell and David Richardson,were all neighbourhood friends that came together when they discovered their talent for rap music, which they shared. They began writing and nurturing their craft. The next natural step was recording, the very first which was done at Hi Red Studios in Malabar under the tutelage of Ras Kiki I and Crym from 3Suns. They also started recording at D'Cube in Mt.Hope and also started their own home Studio. After these developments a change of residence of two members caused Militia to split up. Two of the remaining members, Popwell and Richardson, however decided to keep the name Militia and pursue their musical career. With a start from Hi Red and the experienced gained Militia started to "find themselves" as artists always looking for ways to bring across themselves as truthfully as possible in their music. It was around this time Militia looked towards the stage, leading to their first performance at Spot's Bar in Malabar.After that performance they got advice on performing from Crym and Ras Kiki I and met Rapper Big Lexx, Loose Change and others. They then did their first big performance at Club Castle in Arima where they recieved a warm reception and good reviews. They did various shows in Arima after that and through those events and a collaborated effort featuring artists of Hi Red and the then up and coming Studio 53 they perfomed at the Hardest Local Part 1 alongside artistes such as: Isasha and Million Voice, Mr. King, Benjai and others. This led to their affiliation with Studio 53 where they recorded many tracks the most popular of them being "Cover Me" featuring Million Voice which has become an underground hit in their homeland. Now a few years later after performing in various parts of Trinidad such as Club Seven Secrets, Beer Gardens, Club Casablanca, Club Moods Chaguanus and We Village as well as TV appearances on Gayelle and Synergy, Militia with a new member Kevin Browne and Management has reunited with the two other founding members and has formed A.Y.M Entertainment following the release of their first street album "Without Invitation" which was launched on April 14th 2007.
