Poetic Black is an unsigned Hip Hop group based out of San Diego, California. The three members consist of Raymond "Lo-Key" Tucker, Dishawn "$!ickk" Lewis, and Terrell "T_Jay" Jackson. Poetic Black came together while serving in the U.S. Navy, onboard the USS Kitty Hawk, stationed overseas in Japan in the Spring of 2006.

Shortly after their formation they released a mixtape entitled, Real Beef, in response to present rhetoric from other artists onboard at that time. That project was completed exactly two months after conception and was entirely produced, engineered, and mastered on Lo-Key's HP Pavilion 1500 laptop. 200 copies were burned using Lo-Key's self built, Windows XP operated desktop.

Later that summer the Kitty Hawk would embark on summer deployment, during the middle of which T_Jay was cut orders to the USS Mobile Bay, stationed in San Diego. Vowing to keep the Poetic Black name alive $!ickk along with Lo-Key agreed to keep making music together in the absence of their fellow member.

During the Fall of 2006 on through the Spring of 2007, Lo-Key and $!ickk recorded several songs with guest appearances from local Kitty Hawk artists. Their recordings were slated for release on a compilation album entitled, Yokosuka Showcase Vol. 1, but was never released.

Again the USS Kitty Hawk would embark on scheduled summer deployment where this time Lo-Key was cut long awaited orders to San Diego. Departing midway through the cruise Lo-Key then spent a short two months undergoing special training in Pensacola, Florida before going on leave to visit family and then on to SD.

That same Fall $!ickk cut orders to transfer from the USS Kitty Hawk to the USS Carl Vincent, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Also during the Fall, T_Jay underwent separation from the U.S. Navy and decided to stay in San Diego after learning that Lo-Key would soon be stationed there.

Lo-Key reunited with T_Jay in the winter of 2007 and immediately went back to work as if nothing ever changed. Keeping in touch with $!ickk up until and through his discharge in the Spring of 2008, they laid down the substantial portion to what is now know as the 1st Day of Man Mixtape Series.

In the Summer of 2008 $!ickk would board a Greyhound Bus charted for San Diego, destined to reunite the group. After their reunion, Poetic Black focused unconditionally on the 1st Day of Man project, and began booking shows in the San Diego area.

Currently, Poetic Black continues to gain support and work hard to complete the first mixtape, The Dawn, for the series, all the while performing live on stage in various venues.
