Welcome to the sound of novel improvised guitar playing
Music Plucked Out Of Thin Air
I bought my first guitar, a 2nd hand electric for £3 in 1973 in response to hearing Led Zeppelin, Cream & most of all Jimi Hendrix. A year later I was able to afford an amp from Woolworths to plug the guitar into!
I moved onto listening to the great fusion players Jeff Beck, Alan Holdsworth & John McLaughlin etc plus Debussy & most important of all JS Bach - the distiller of the essence of musical craft. I really like the intriguing sound of interwoven of melodic strands, as in the contrapuntal style that Bach was the supreme master of.
Towards the end of 2007 I bought a ’Line 6 UX2 Toneport’ guitar/PC interface enabling me for the first time to record my guitar playing in hifi without the need to set up amps, effects & microphones. These noodlings are the result.
The only overdubs are on the tracks where I improvised the chords or lead or phrases first then improvised the 2nd guitar part over them.
The sound on Ancient Athens was achieved using the 'Line 6 UX2' to add the 5th & octave. It seems to suit the modal feel to that improvisation.
In fact I think it's that sound that prompted it.
I also improvised against two pre recorded backing tracks on the jazzy blues track I've called 'Mystery Blues' & the Improv over unknown backing track. I found them on my hard drive & would love to know who's playing those backings !
