Steve Jai has been a Musician/Vocalist for over 37 years. Early on he was influenced heavily by his Father Clarence Johnson who was a noted Jazz vocalist and sang locally with many small combos in the Metro Charleston/Huntington, WV area. Growing up he was exposed to artists like Nat King Cole, Oscar Peterson, Miles Davis, Sammy Davis Jr. and many others.
Steve always knew that he wanted to be a musician and his parents where supportive of anything that he wanted to try that had to do with music.
He started taking piano lessons at age 10 and always participated in school music programs where he also took trumpet lessons and was a member of the glee club.
Steve was a voice major/piano minor in college at Marshall University and also did some additional training at Laney Junior College in Oakland California for a year or so.
He has traveled extensively throughout the US playing many venues from local clubs to major resort show rooms. He has played with various regional acts in Virginia such as Kid Shalene out of Virginia Beach, The Santa Cruz Band out of Charleston, and Skin Tight Huntington to name a few. He has always enjoyed writing music and has been involved with submitting various projects to several major and Indie record labels.
Steve Jai’s ambition at this stage in his career is to continue to write music and get his work published.
