Tanjia Antoinette Harris
(born October 1st in San Francisco, California) is singer, songwriter, and audio-engineer. I was the lead singer for the female trio Pure Essence and mentored by Emmy Award winning musician, Tony Saunders. The group and I were were featured on
Eleven-Five's 1995 hit album
“Fiendin’ 4 Tha Funk"(re-released in 2006).
"Fiendin' 4 Tha Funk" peaked at 73 on
Billboard's Top 100 R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart list.
The daughter of a French Canadian mother and a black father, I am also the sister of up and coming Singer/Songwriter
Shemeca Greer.
As a child, I sang tunes from the radio and my father’s album collection. In the third grade I was recognized by my school choir teacher as a standout soprano and was requested to sing with jazz saxophonist,
Richie Cole. I participated in my high school choir at Woodrow Wilson and then studied two years under Ms.
Lucy Kinchen, at Laney College in Oakland, CA.
With
The Supremes as an idol, I dreamed of becoming a recording artist. At age 18 I began dating San Francisco-pioneering rapper Cougnut and give gave me my first professional opportunity to perform a voice-over on the track
“Bang Bang” on the
I.M.P. Back In The Days CD. This album peaked at 100 on Billboard's Top 100 R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart list.
Currently, I am wrapping up the mastering of my first self-titled solo album due for release at the end of this year.
