Biography
Listen closely. You can hear the voice on the other side of the door, giving a hundred and ten percent as if she's prepping for a show at the Oscars. This is the voice of Sonia, rehearsing a song to perform later this week.
"Everytime I sing I feel as if I'm in a different world, and I never want to leave," says Sonia, then adds, "To me music is the one thing that makes me feel I'm alive."
Born and raised in Kenya, Sonia is determined, now more than ever to make it as a singer in the US. She has lived in the US for six years with her family. At 21 years, she sings, writes, dances, acts, models, and does charities.
But before you compare her with other songbirds out there, this bird a very rare one. She speaks, writes and sings in three languages namely English, Swahili, and her native language Kikuyu. She also does African dancing.
Sonia is involved in R&B, gospel, pop, African (Kenyan), and thearter music. "Having a wide range of music allows to learn and mix all of them together," she says. Sonia started singing at a tender age of six, where she sung at a pre-wedding party. Her influences include: South African popstar Brenda Fassie, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Boyz II men, Ciara, Little Richard, Natasha Bettingfield, Mariah Carey, and Lauryn Hill.
With the talent and ambition that she has, combined with her hardwork, Sonia is bound to conquer the music industry.
