Biography
THE RUSSELL JACKSON BAND: Russell B Jackson Russell Jackson was born in Memphis ,Tennessee and raised in Wichita Kansas. At the age of 25 this bass virtuoso had gained such a reputation that in 1979 he was invited to play with the great B.B. King Orchestra, where he stayed for the next 7 years. In 1986 Russell was admitted to the prestigious Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles where he studied both the acoustic and electric bass under the world renowned tutor Joel DiBartlo. In 1987, Russell was part of the highly acclaimed rhythm section known as Silent Partners and wrote the title track on the critically acclaimed debut album ' If It's All Night, It's All Right' on the Antones label in 1989. Russell toured and recorded with such blues greats as Charlie Musselwhite, Katie Webster, Matt Murphy, Kenny Neal, Roy Gaines as well as headlining their own dates. After leaving Silent Partners in 1990, Russell relocated to Vancouver,B.C. where he formed The Russell Jackson Band. In 1994 the group recorded The Alley Man CD on the StoneBluz Label. In 1996, the music video Show Me The Door was released on the Bravo! Network in the U.S and Canada. 1998 was an busy and exciting year for Russell finding time between tours to sit down and write his own distinct brand of Blues culminating with the release of the album Becoming Blue in 1999. The current members of The Russell Jackson Band includes drummer Theo Brown who has vast touring and performing experience. Theo has performed with Luther Allison, Bernard Allison, Randy Brecker, Mel Brown, Johnny Copeland, Shemekia Copeland, Janiva Magness, Sonny Rhodes, Kenny "BluesBoss" Wayne and many other notable performers and musicians. The band also features Paul Finn on guitar and Sean Grieves on keyboards. In 2006 Russell and Theo were on Kenny "BluesBoss" Wayne's Juno award winning "Best Blues Recording Of The Year" "Let It Loose" on the Electro-Fi Label in addition to preparing to release the Russell Jackson Band upcoming cd. Last but not least are two musicians we are excited have with the band are guitarist Paul Finn a very fine musician in his own right and keyboard player Sean Grieve and together we are known as The Russell Jackson Band.
