People always ask me where I get the ideas for my songs and the answer is simple. Most of them came from real life experiences. Others were born from a hook that I eventually wrote around. In any case, I experienced it either first-hand or as a witness. I really enjoy what I do, both writing and playing. The songs on this showcase are both a labor of love and a heartfelt presentation of my music, my life.
MY FAMILY:
My brother Carl plays multi instruments and is extremely gifted. My younger brother Terry is awesome on the mandolin, guitar, banjo and about anything he decides to play. My sister Cheryl is the beauty with a voice like an angel. She currently sings her songs for the Lord and I personally think she is a better singer than any female on the charts today. My dad got us started early, he played the electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, bass, harmonica, accordion, and more. My mom always made sure we acted nice, respectful, did our best then leave quietly. She believed in leaving the crowd wanting more and her and dad were strict about close harmony and how we presented ourselves on and off the stage. She booked our shows when we were a family bluegrass band and she even made some of our clothes. It was like having an entourage complete with sound advice, strict training, and a love that could never be duplicated. I miss all that. I am very proud of every one of them. My son Shane is an ace in the computer/video industry and is creative as he is talented. I am one lucky man.
I am proud of my friends Kenny Chesney (2008 Entertainer Of The Year), Shawn Camp, (writer for Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn,George Strait and many others and was my neighbor in Antioch, Arkanasas. Our parents used to visit each other and play music for hours. I loved it.
I want to thank my buds for helping me cut some challenging tracks. Harry Sharpe (Music Director and keyboards for Wynonna,Donna Summer and many more) Keith Horne (6 string left handed bass for everyone in Nashville) Tom Bukovac (guitar player for Keith Urban, Toby Keith and more) Bob Angelo (producer and steel player for Suzy Bogus and many more) Dean Hall (son of Tom T. and Dixie) for some hot guitars, and of course my wife Gina who has never stopped believing in me.
I love my family, I love the Lord and I love all kinds of music. The song My Angel and I is one I wrote and sung for our wedding. I did it on the guitar and remember hearing a lot of what I thought was snickering going on. It turned out that people were actually crying and when Gina came down the aisle in that wedding dress I just about lost it too. She did look like an angel strolling in. It was beautiful.
I play golf, love to fish, hunt and travel. I am currently working on a new bluegrass album,"The Cost of Loving" in my studio "THE RED ROOM" where I spend a lot of my spare time writing and recording both music and video projects. A lot of my music is either tracked here or in Nashville and then mixed here. The Red Room is small but effective. Besides, that way I can mix in my birthday suit if I want to. (alone of course!)
