CD NOW AVAILABLE FOR SALE AT WWW.VIOLETAMBER.COM
Violet Amber is based in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada. Eric Sheppard, the primary creative force and front man grew up performing in Ontario before moving to British Columbia. A once primary keyboard/piano player, Sheppard made the move to guitars at 17 and began his developing his unique but accessible Canadian roots-rock guitar sound. In the current album, Sheppard resurrects and tastefully brings some classic vintage synthesizer sounds into the spotlight sans-electronica sap or losing losing that driving rock edge.
The newly completed album, "An Expedition in Waiting" contains 14 solid tracks each uniquely arranged and produced by Sheppard, centered around the same distinctive style. The album highlights a powerful blend of acoustic and electric guitars, screaming Hammond organ live off the floor (Down) and those large vintage synth sounds (Wake Up, Goodnight ), all to very infectious pop-anthem melodies and musical hooks.
Although the songs are easily recognizable as being pop rock, there is a depth to the lyrics where listeners find humable familiarity. Influences include Rush, Dave Mathews, Midnight Oil, and the Tragically Hip.
Sheppard lives in Regina Saskatchewan while the rest of the band currently calls the Vancouver area home. The group is currently promoting the current release but is taking a short but much needed break. During the recording of “An Expedition In Waiting”, Sheppard was diagnosed with cancer. Despite the diagnosis and sometimes debilitating treatment regime, Sheppard persevered and finished the album at one point with a paralyzed vocal cord. Sheppard declared victory over his diagnosis and is on the road to recovery. Preparations are underway for performances both locally and in BC for early fall.
