Breaking the rules, being rebellious, and going against the grain is what Hip Hop is all about. If that’s the case then New Orleans mc Dappa has read the book from front to back. Dappa’s freshman single “You Got Me” has washed over New Orleans like early morning humidity. The songs infectious hook and smooth melody make it an instant attention getter. Dappa sings (or raps) what every artist wants to say to his girl (or guy or girl). Basically he’s saying “I’m trying to hustle, but you got me f**ked up”, with all the problems that go along with a relationship. What hustler, artist, or working person can’t agree with that? Dappa was thrust into the rap game at the age of 18, basically by accident. His cousin U-P was a producer for New Orleans record label Extreme Entertainment and needed someone to DJ for one of the artist on the label. After a frustrating show in Memphis, CEO Walter “Bossman” Butler said he needed something different, something fresh. And from the back of the suburban young Dappa said “I can rap.” As everyone laughed, Dappa began to freestyle. After two verses, no one was laughing and Bossman told everyone in the truck, “this is the future!” In a short span of time, Dappa has gone from tearing up the streets with his mixtapes such as “Chocolate City Vol. 1” and stellar remixes of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls” to appearing on Baby Boy Da Prince’s album on the song “Do What It Do”. Dappa is known for creating music that appeals to a wide audience from Urban Radio to any Top 40 Pop station.
