THE PROMOSEXUALS DEBUT ALBUM 'SQUARELY BELOVED' was mixed by LEGENDARY PRODUCER JACK ENDINO-- HE WHO COINED THE TERM 'GRUNGE' AND DID RECORDS FOR NIRVANA, SOUNDGARDEN, MUDHONEY, ZEKE, AND 300 OTHERS-- AND YOU WON'T FIND A LESS 'GRUNGE' RECORD IN HIS WHOLE DISCOGRAPHY! The PROMOSEXUALS are the product of a major-label refugee and a studio geek with Young Onset Parkinson's Disease (or just PD for short). IT'S ALL ABOUT FEELING GOOD-- loads of yummy analog synths, thumpin' live and machine-drums, fun sing-along vocals, and driving, groove-heavy guitars. We LOVE AC/DC, DEVO, THE ROLLING STONES, X, P-FUNK, WU-TANG CLAN, CHEAP TRICK, THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, THE GOSSIP, and everything else that MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD, even while they poke at stuffed-shirts and brainless haters. We'll take you on a joyful road-trip through many galaxies and get you home exhausted, happy, and safe. AND FEELING SEXXY. The PROMOSEXUALS started playing together a million years ago, in a galaxy several light-years from earth. As the transmission time from the PROMOSEXUAL home planet to here takes several years, this first release is FINALLY AVAILABLE ON EARTH. PROMOSEXUAL PERSONNEL: *DAVE 'BOSCH' BIRENBAUM (guitar, synth/vocoder, vocals, drums & percussion) was the drummer/backing vocalist/main songwriter for A&M band HAMMERBOX until their break-up in 1994. Their A&M debut 'NUMB' was hailed by many critics and fans as one of the seminal Seattle Rock albums of the decade. Dave wrote their (almost)hits "Trip", "Hole", "Hed", and "When 3 is 2", among others. Some of these songs were featured in major motion pictures and national radio and TV ads throughout the 90's. Post-HAMMERBOX, Dave was prominently featured in a number of nationally-run Nintendo Game System television spots, in which he played a bizarre, insectoid drummer. HAMMERBOX toured the world several times and played innumerable festivals, including all those huge Summer festivals across Europe. Because HAMMERBOX didn't immediately sell 75 trillion records, A&M dropped them in '94. Dave went on to play in various bands and on a variety of recordings by numerous Seattle bands. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon with the other PROMOSEXUALS, and is the owner of famed used/vintage musical instrument stores 'TRADE UP MUSIC.' (www.tradeupmusic.com). He married fellow-PROMOSEXUAL Jodi in 2004. *DUBH DAVID BLACK (synths, beats, weird home-built machines, vocals, drums & percussion)was co-owner of PRIVATE RADIO RECORDING in Seattle from 1991-2003. He engineered and/or produced projects for well over 300 bands, including CORNERSHOP, PETER BUCK(REM), THE GOSSIP, HARVEY DANGER, and maaaany others that you've never heard-- but should have! Owing to his rep and lifelong interest in Irish language and culture (he studies and speaks the ancient Irish language, correctly known as Gaeilge), Dubh was hired to fly to Dublin/Belfast in 2003, where he produced recordings for current Irish bands the DELORENTOS, YAKUZA, MORELLO, the HOLY GHOST FATHERS, and others. Around 1999, Dubh started experiencing the symptoms of what would be finally diagnosed as YOUNG ONSET PARKINSON'S DISEASE in 2004. Though mostly controllable with proper medications and rest, he has chosen to no longer work the 100+hour weeks required to do full-on album production for others. Though, via the internet and snail-mail, he continues to mix/edit/master projects for bands in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, and the UK. "The (PD) really isn't that big of a deal," said Dubh. "The real trick is to actually TAKE the medications on a regular schedule and get as much exercise as possible. The developments into Parkinson's over the last 10 years have been amazing-- though I take about 25 tablets a day of various drugs and supplements, my PD is often pretty invisible. I walk with a cane and tremor and stammer some, but so do a lot of people! And, I have a totally cool, blinged-out cane that I use onstage-- it has flashing lights and a 'trigger output' that allows me to use it to set off sounds, loops, and even trigger a GLITTER CANNON. Knowing that I've got this condition has been a blessing, really, since for years I thought I was losing my mind and didn't understand what the hell my body was doing. Being able to play this uplifting, energetic music with my wife and best friends is the best of all possible types of therapy." Dubh lives in Portland with his wife and fellow-PROMOSEXUAL Lisa Deluxe. *JODI SEXUAL (bass guitar, non-bass guitar, vocals, percussion) brings an explosion of red-headed energy to the PROMOSEXUALS. Her other celebrated band GIN AND TILLY-ANNA have gone on hiatus to allow her full expression as a PROMOSEXUAL. She rocks the low-end like a portable earthquake generator and will lull you off into a beautiful trance-world of untold audio deliciousness. *LISA DELUXE (guitar, vocals, synth, percussion) provides the female vocalisms you hear on the PROMOSEXUALS-- SQUARELY BELOVED album. For several years in Seattle, she fronted the Classic Country (think Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash)bands SWING COUNTRY USA and THE NASHVILLAINS. A Seattle paper called her voice 'like honey...like a whiskey-soaked angel," and we know you'll agree once you hear it. ---------- ADDITIONAL MUSICIANS ON 'THE PROMOSEXUALS-SQUARELY BELOVED' CD: *FRED CHALENOR is a well-known session bassist and performer. He's performed and recorded with such notables as JOHN ZORN, WAYNE HORVITZ, CAVEMAN SHOESTORE, AND HUGHSCORE, with HUGH HOPPER, FORMERLY OF THE SOFT MACHINE. He played the bass on our record, since Dave hadn't met Jodi yet! *MIKE BIRENBAUM was the leader and Hammond B-3 organist for endlessly touring Ska faves EASY BIG FELLA. He dropped some wikkid additional synth yumminess on a few songs. *DJ RAHIM is a noted turntablist and DJ based in Seattle; he performs the scratch-solo on SHOK!BELLY Discography -THE PROMOSEXUALS: SQUARELY BELOVED (2007) In various combinations or individually, BOSCH and DUBH have played on/produced albums by approx. 8 Zillion bands.
