Mito is no stranger to the music industry. With appreciative performances at the Fifth Annual “Facing Life” series at Centre of Excellence and more recently with the opening of club Pure Energy, Mito is on his way to becoming a household name. Mito, whose real name is Keron Ammon, grew up on Bazilion Branch Street, Tunapuna. And following in the footsteps of many aspiring musicians he worked his way up from his primary school at Tunapuna Presbyterian,to writingand composing during his teenaged years before expanding his dreams. Mito, which is short for mitochondria, (a biology term for energy cells) attributes his early influences to a variety of sources. Music great Bob Marley has influenced Mito to keep his music conscious U2’s Bono and Sting have impacted on the writing and composing style evident in his music. But it was during his teenaged years when he found his style. Tupac’s music greatly influenced this street-smart artiste to explore the hip-hop field. According to him “hip-hop allows me the freedom to truly express myself the way no other genre of music can.” His passion is also fuelled by other artistes namely Jay-Z, Lauren Hill, Erika Badu, Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morissette,The Cranberries,The Marley family. Last year Mito fought to overcome an addiction problem. Today, with a renewed strength and determination for life, Mito is focused on making music his career. Mito began by being a dj and then grew to an MC.He likes to express himself and believs he can do that by his music. It is Mito’s dream to get involved in all aspects of the music industry. He wants to be comfortable writing, composing and recording the many songs still in his head and heart. He also wants to one day hear his songs on the local airwaves, an elusive goal for many, but Mito believes that through hard-work, determination and a good sponsor all things are possible. He reassures that “you wouldn’t be let down,” when his track “Woman Scorned” drops by the end of the carnival season. Only time will tell whether this talented, down-to-earth musician truly realizes his dreams.
