Bio
(Songs will be uploaded by 10th May) In late October 2006 the germination began of the entity which was to become South of a Sun. Thorin and Kyle (both previously of Freecase) crossed paths with Justin (previously of No Plastic). Four months of working on material and practicing finally led to a demo recording in early March of 2007 (generally no demo = no gigs). All members are now hungry to begin the next stage of the band’s growth and development by taking the music out of the practice room and into the varied landscape that is the gig scene. The four demo tracks currently available reflects a bit of the spectrum which is covered by our sound (Downloadable at www.myspace.com/southofasun). She Won’t be Gone Long and Today are two acoustic rock pieces set around romantic themes, Smart Bomb is a protest song focused mainly on Western intervention in the middle east and global perceptions of terror and “just cause”, while Anger in Me is an energetic punk rock song. South of a Sun’s songs don’t sound the same from track to track, and this reflects influences ranging from David Kramer through to Boo, Everclear, Fokofpolisiekar, many in between and many beyond. South of a Sun does not care for mainstream market considerations, and does not want to mimic American or British super acts. South of a Sun, as the name suggests, embraces all that it means to be a South African band and wants to make their own brand of “South African Rock” for South Africans, and anyone else anywhere in the world who wants to let their mind and soul join us south of the sun.
