Bio
Songwriter. RECORDINGS ARE VERY BASIC, but they will be replaced soon by better ones!. SEE BELOW FOR LYRICS and ALLOW SOME SECONDS FOR SOME SONGS TO START!!! Contact via: http://www.myspace.com/timeldridge I write lyrics for songs of various kinds, from pleasant love ballads to Springsteen-type stories. Some have a message, others don't, but I hope all the songs tell some kind of story. Some of them have music already, others are waiting for someone to collaborate with me to create the music. I have basic recordings (and I stress the word 'basic') of about 8 of them, providing a good idea of the very different kind of stuff I write. Some are sung by my Spanish wife Lola, who's really a harpist, others by Marie-Béa, a gifted pianist from Lausanne, who also plays guitar a bit. They would both say: 'Forgive us our accent, we're not English-speaking, read the lyrics!!' But I think they do a pretty good job of presenting the songs! Watch out, I've changed one or two words in a couple of the songs since they were recorded; and for Storm Rising, for eg, you have to wait about 15 seconds before Marie starts singing! In the song Early Days, the words may need a little adjustment for the American market, as the phrase 'ít's early days' in 'English English' means 'it's too early yet'. But you'll get the idea... Early Days (Copyright Timothy Eldridge 2006) Your eyes fall At the mention of her name Your mind turns back the pages To the rhythm of the rain There's a smile on your lips As something touches from the past Another broken story Another broken heart. It's early days To be starting something new Too early to be hoping These early days are few Chorus It's early days baby For falling in my arms It's early days baby For the healing work to start I'd like to reach out and touch Make it all go away But it's too early days baby For you to want to stay It's early now To turn the last page on the past To raise your eyes and tell me There's a future here for us But a heart's made to mend So I’ll be waiting here for you Just reach out and you'll find me When the mending time is through Yes a heart's made to mend So if there's healing work to do Just reach out when you find The early days are through Copyright Timothy Eldridge 2006 Words can wait (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2003) Page 1 of 1 Baby has no words But just a reason less absurd Defies all mine Knows just how to hold And then just how to let it go Because it's time Baby has these eyes And when she stares straight into mine The world stands still A look so deep and wide A colour yet to be defined Too dark to tell And baby knows Yes baby knows The words can wait Cos baby knows Chorus: Sometimes she shows me in her eyes The world she comes from in the skies And all that I can find to say Is through the joy and through the pain I'll try to keep you safe in mine Yes through the joy and through the pain I'll try to keep you safe in mine Baby has her fears But when she cries she has no tears It breaks my heart Suddenly she laughs And then my heart is not enough It comes apart Baby has a scream A cry so loud and pure it seems The world's gone deaf Then she makes no sound But she just watches all around To see what's left Yes baby cries And baby sighs And baby screams And baby dreams No words so far As I can tell No words so far It’s just as well Repeat chorus Copyright Timothy Eldridge 2003 Storm rising (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2000) Four years now since you hit the road Without a sign and without a word Just an empty shelf and a lot more space And an empty pillow to hide my face Well I turned inside those empty rooms Hit the whisky hard and called you a fool I looked for a reason and I couldn't find one Called your name out loud and the night came down The storm it rose inside my head My brain went wild and my heart went dead The storm it rose before my eyes It took my body and it took my mind They found me on the baseball ground I was mumbling something, just walking around They shouted out to put my hands on my head I could stay alive or I could come along dead They called my rights, and told me what I'd done I'd burned my home right to the ground Then I'd taken my car, went out looking for you Well I'd found you baby and I'd found him too And the storm it rose inside my head My brain went wild and my heart went dead The storm it rose before my eyes It took my body and it took my mind I could have come quiet, I could have come sweet Could have laid that gun there at my feet But I thought of my house, just a burning mess Smoking away, and I couldn't care less Then I thought about you and I thought about us I thought about him and all that blood I thought of all that and of nothing much else Couldn't live without you, and couldn't live with myself So I watched the storm rise inside my head Smiled and let go and sprayed that lead Yeah that gun came up before my eyes Let it take my body and take my mind I got out alive, I was lucky they said But the ones I hit, well they’re all dead So I sit with my luck in this concrete cell And I think of heaven and I think of hell And when I'm not here I'm breaking rocks Least they think I am and it makes no odds But I'm thinking about you and I'm thinking about him I'm breaking rocks and I'm singing a hymn Storm Rising (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2000) War Correspondent Copyright Tim Eldridge 1998 It's a clearing in the jungle It's a midday sun People sitting on a tank Others standing around The picture will be good And the world has to see But I'm just doing my job Just doing my job There's a boy soldier in front Staring right at my lens And another one behind Laughing with his friends The one that's out in front Isn't having so much fun Cos he's not the one Who's holding the gun And two sisters stand beside The younger's probably thirteen Looking well out of place In her battledress green Her eyes are black with fear And she's staring around Like she's looking for something There on the ground Yes her eyes are black with fear To match her long shiny hair And she's looking at the ground Like she'll find something there A stone to touch with her foot Like almost anything would help Cos she can't look behind Can't look ahead Yes it's a clearing in the jungle It's a midday sun There's people all around And some are having fun There's two beautiful young women And a crowd of young men They're standing for the camera Before it all begins Well the elder of the girls You can see where she's been She's got blood on her shirt And a scar down one cheek But this one she just knows Where she'd rather be She's staring fear and pride and anger Straight back at me Yes it's a clearing in the jungle It's a midday sun People sitting on a tank Others standing around The picture will be good It might even get a prize If I could just leave behind That look in her eyes You see for what happened next The camera couldn't turn And with the salt in my eyes It was all just a blurr But no matter how hard I press my hands to my head I hear those two sisters' screams Coming back from the dead Copyright Tim Eldridge 1998 If (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2001) If you should happen to find That I've been preying on your mind Well you've been preying on mine A little longer each time And if the summer's been cold Without that someone to hold The winter nights can seem far shorter With someone there to make them much warmer Chorus Don't turn away Take my hand, say it’s just for a day And if the feeling gets much too strong for us You may just say You'll stay If you need more than a friend To get that feeling again Well I've been feeling it too The need to share it with you And if the ghosts from the past Seem to be parting at last You're going to find they leave much faster If someone takes their place just after Repeat chorus Copyright 2001 Timothy Eldridge Here's a few without definite music to them yet: Writing in the heart (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2002) The radio’s on And the baby’s gotta blare Got your mother round my neck What you doing in my hair? And the neighbour’s drilling hard Like he’s drilling for his life He’s either banging on my wall Or he’s banging on his wife In the yard there’s people shouting Dustbins clanging through the night Kids who’ll try it like they all do Got to try and get it right But there’s a drilling in my head And it ain’t about to stop Gotta run till I bust Gotta run till I drop Feel the anger in your guts But turn your face to the wall Beat your head against the concrete Cos you just can’t beat them all There’s a kid who lives downstairs Says he’ll bust open my head If I don’t move my ass Then I’m better off dead Hit the floor little sister Can’t you see the light’s green? If you can’t think faster Get the hell off my scene If you can’t make the grade Like if you don’t get laid You’re a full time loser That’s the tune the man plays Yeah there’s a drilling in my head And it ain’t about to stop Gotta run till I bust Gotta run till I drop Feel the anger in your guts But turn your face to the wall Beat your head against the concrete Cos you just can’t beat them all But the pain it’s still within me Got this fire deep inside Gotta burn their eyes wide open Or it’s me they’re gonna blind Man I gotta hit something Yeah there’s something’s gotta give But the hatred’s gotta die Before the love can start to live Yeah there’s something’s gotta give Its gotta all come apart Before the writing on the wall Becomes the writing in the heart Cos they promise us the world And they promise us the moon But the world they promise mister It just better come soon Yeah there’s something’s gotta give Its gotta all come apart Before the writing on the wall Becomes the writing in the heart There’s a drilling in my head And it ain’t about to stop Gotta run till I bust Gotta run till I drop Till the writing on the wall Becomes the writing in the heart Till the writing on the wall Becomes the writing in the heart (repeat to fade) Copyright Timothy Eldridge 2002 Night so long (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2005) Church clock told us that the night was almost through Whole town was sleeping but we had better things to do My heart it told me You must be mine Your kisses asked me baby Just one more time Lets make the night (so) Lets make the night (so) Lets make the night So long x2 And I remember when the church clock just struck two Your key in the door, girl I’m through waiting up for you I have my questions but They’ll have to wait That look on your face and I know I ain’t lost you yet Lets make the night (so) Lets make the night (so) Lets make the night So long x2 Church clock’s silent now it’s a quarter after five DJ’s asking me if it’s good to be alive First light tells me It’s almost dawn And I know for sure now baby You ain’t coming home But who made the night (so) Who made the night (so) Who made the night So long? x2 I hope I’ll be hearing Your heels in the hall But the silence tells me baby You ain’t coming home I hope I’ll be seeing You there at the door But first light is telling me Our love ain’t no more So who made the night (so) Who made the night (so) Who made the night So long? Copyright Timothy Eldridge 2005 Love so strong (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2000) Well love came And love stayed For two hearts free No past to pay With love so new And love so young We had no words For love so strong Yes love stayed And love grew We found the words To make it true We took our love And we built it strong With love like ours We couldn't go wrong Then times changed And so did we I thought it was you You said it was me But we found the words And we held on tight To love so strong To love so right Cos when love's strong You don't turn and leave You find the words To make your peace So we took our love And to make it stay We made a promise And we set the day All was quiet As the words were said The rings were slipped And our love was blessed But life got hard Lines got tough We were sorry too much Then not enough Started using words We'd never heard before Got used to the words And the slam of the door In the end we sat Late into the night Looked for the words Till we saw things right Cos with love so wrong When it's time to go You have to find the words For letting go Yes love came And love was strong How could we know It was love so wrong But with so many words And so many tears Then why is love So hard to leave? (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2000) And here's my latest one, called Not in My Day. Yes, I know it may be a bit long... Sorry, no recording yet! Not in my day (Copyright Tim Eldridge 2007) Well I tried to watch the evening news But it wasn't all that nice So I'll sit and watch the sun go down instead In my garden paradise I'll sip my deep red burgundy Till my glass is empty and dry I'll close my ears and I'll close my heart So I won't have to see the signs But I can hear the drums Lord I can hear the drums (chorus) So when the night comes down I'll close those shades I'll set the alarm and go upstairs I'll bow my head when I close my eyes to pray Not in my day, Lord, not in my day And my little girl's growing all too fast She used to sit on my knee Now she turns away from the evening news Says Pa it's down to you and me All they want is something clean to drink And a little of the food we can spare But if we don't act soon there may be no-one left Or perhaps they'll come and take their share And I can hear the drums Lord I can hear the drums So when the night comes down... (repeat chorus) Now there's a man sitting there in the dust by the road And I wish there was some place he would hide He's half a world away but the look in his eyes Says all he's got to swallow is his pride He'd sure rise up if only he could stand If he just had the strength in him to spit So I’ll sit on here and sip my glass of wine As my blood red sun begins to sink But I can hear the drums Lord I can hear the drums So when the night comes down… (repeat chorus) I'll close those shades Lord I'll set the alarm But I can hear those drums I can hear those drums I’ll call your name and I’ll whisper my prayer But I can hear those drums I can hear those drums Copyright Timothy Eldridge 2007
