Bio
With a richly textured voice that stands out from the crowd, Janid and her natural ability to weave 7-voice harmonies into smooth sultry vocal arrangements commands the respect of her critics, peers and fans. Evoking the likes of Lisa Lisa, Taylor Dayne, Jill Scott and Lauren Hill, Janid's uniquely powerful yet controlled voice combined with a seductively exotic beauty, the sweet charm of the girl next door and the explosive stage presence that often eludes even the seasoned veteran is quickly positioning this young diva to be an International Soul, Pop and R&B Superstar. Born in New York City, Puerto Rican singer Janid first moved to the Island of Enchantment when she was just a baby. As a child, she showed an early passion for the arts taking ballet, piano, jazz, belly dancing, modeling and singing lessons. This passion was reinforced by an equally artistic family composed primarily of musicians. However, Janid's impressive vocal abilities and her love for Hip-Hop and R&B soon became evident. By the age of 5 she had written her first song and her journey as an entertainer had begun. In school she was a soprano in her school choir and as an adult sang in a gospel choir. Since then, Janid has made appearances in TV commercials, singing in jingles, radio station IDs and co-writing and providing vocals for major label artist demos. It was while working on one of these demos in 2003, that she met producer Kaydean. Impressed with her soulful voice, seven-octave range and their great chemistry as a team, Kaydean immediately started working with Janid. This led to the formation of the Latin Urban group, Mente Urbana where she was the lead singer. Since leaving the group, Janid's songs have been featured in the Puerto Rican mini-series "El Ultimo Caso del Detective Prado." In 2006, Janid performed in front of 3.5 million people at the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City on JetBlue Airways' float in support of her independent debut release entitled Goddess. Goddess earned her 4 Stars on Amazon.com, 4 Stars on VH1.com, the Editor's Pick for Brown Eyed Soul Artist award and came in 1st in the Top 20 Sexiest Latinos of New York viewer's choice list. By the fall of that year, Janid was back in the studio working on her sophomore attempt. Once again, Janid chose to work alongside her long-time friend and producer Kaydean and his songwriting team who helped her give this second production a more soulful sound. Only eight weeks later, her second album entitled ONE was born. ONE establishes Janid as a well-rounded artist with an incredible versatility who has reached an amazing vocal maturity in a short period of time. "I wanted to name my second album ONE because I feel it is ONE of a kind and it's my way of establishing that music and I are ONE, it's ONE love," said Janid. ONE also features collaborations with fellow Dead Ninja Records recording artists MC Que, Gadjett and Ramon Michael. Scheduled to be released in 2007, ONE runs the gamut from Pop R&B to soulful seduction ballads ending with a pop ballad that would be a candidate for Song of the Year. All throughout, Janid flawlessly delivers a performance of a lifetime and maintains her deeply rooted urban style.
