Beirut

This is a pioneering Arabic project that’s very eclectic… it’s funky, humorous, emotional and intellectual… the album has a mixture of influences including Reggae, Urban, Funk, Chill out, French, Dance, Trance, Comedy and more…. The lead and video track is the very funky reggae-tone/urban Bassal featuring Erhab, it’s bound to make a social statement in and about this part of the world. It’s about the status quo in the Arab world. Bassal means Onion; and part 1 is goes on about why we need to eat onion (bassal) to forget what’s happened (li hasal), while part 2 pauses a paradox and questions this reality, and why we should not eat onion to not forget what’s happened. This very unique project is the work of Rabih Aouad., known as a trendy Beirut underground bar owner (in artists Beirut area Gemmeyzeh), musician and artist, initially for his jazz album in the late 90s, “Coma”. This is a concept album featuring various artists including the urban rap act Erhab, famous TV comedians Zeina Dakkache and Tarek Tamim, Abboud El Saadi, international violinist Claude Chalhoub, and much more…. The album consists of 13 tracks as follows 1. Bassal; (featuring Erhab) 5:39 2. Bassal (Part 2) 4:39 3. Funk U! (featuring Zeina Dakkach) 4:05 4. Bala ma 7ada y2oul (featuring Tarek Tamim) 4:15 5.
