Bio
Attack of the Gnomes have recently had a review from "Bandman", this is what they had to say about us - "Quirky piano-led pop with winning hooks and charming songs. Great interaction between the syncopated rhythm section and the hyperactive piano, all finished off with scowling, knowing vocals". Attack of the Gnomes are an unsigned Manchester band. Hey fellow Gnomies, it's Mark here telling the tale of how Attack of the Gnomes came about and how we got where we are today, mainly because the other guys can't be arsed with all the typing! Myself and Reece were writing together for a long time but we had no luck with finding a suitable bass player. That was until Reece found Steve in HMV. Reece remembered Steve's face (who could forget it) and that Steve played bass. So over went Reece and asked him. Blah, blah, blah, long story. Steve said he'd play and see how we sounded. Meanwhile Steve's now ex-girlfriend thought that Reece was chatting Steve up. She became worried when they exchanged numbers! On the way down to the first practice Steve said the classic line in our Gnome history, "I will never play in a piano band, I hate them". Reece had a hunch that Steve wouldn't work out. At the practice I turned up and met the Steve. I thought he was a Metal-head of some sort and didn't think that it would go too well. However, once Steve got over the fact that the piano was being carried into the room, he worked out one of our tunes and loved it. I mean, of course he loved it, we aren't exactly the fucking Fray or Keane are we now? Within a few months of rehersing and writing music we played our first gig as a complete band at Samual Platts in Salford Quays. The amount of people who turned up was overwelming for the Gnomes so thanks to everyone who came and supported us. A special thanks goes out to both BIG D's, Lewis Vigelskas, Knickers, DQ, Ad, Andy Palmer, Johnny(Cutting Rooms) and Wharfside. Oh and Lewis mate, "Passengers" for you. One of my fave memories of being a Gnome was seeing Reece surfing on his keyboard, well that was until his stand snapped and he fell on his butt. Oh, and during one of our gigs at Joshua Brooks in Manchester, I stood up halfway through "The Fool" and crashed-out as hard as I could on the drums. Reece did the same with his fists on his keys and ended up snapping some. We carried on the rest of the set with notes missing (good times!). Our most recent achievement was recording our demo at the Cutting Rooms Recording Studio's. Soon we will continue to record the rest of our album. Although this has been stressful, it's been an enjoyable experience to write and perform our own music. I hope our enjoyment is reflected through the music. Another great achievement for Attack of the Gnomes is raising over £10,000 for various charities in the U.K, along side Wharfside.
