[color="darkred"]JOHN EXTRA is an 80’s baby born August 1st 1985 as Samuel Jerome Alston Jr. The name John E. Cash was formulated, by Cash being an individual that has a great ambition for money. The original name was John Dough, but it was to plain and Cash felt the name didn’t really fit his character. He still wanted to keep the money aspect involved in the name, so he went with John Extra Cash (John E. Cash) for short. After many different independent artist running with the name John E. Cash he decided to keep it as JOHN EXTRA. There are a few unique attributes about John, as a hip-hop artist that separates him from the rest. Some interesting characteristics are his laid back style, the concepts of his songs are catchy and trendsetting, and the biggest difference is he refuses to curse (profanity) in any of his verses. The reason being is when he was younger, he use to have to sneak to listen to his favorite hip-hop artist, because his mother didn’t allow any parental advisory sticker cds in the household. Other reasons from refraining from cursing in the music for John is he wants his music to be heard by all listeners, from children, to teenagers, to young adults, to adults, and elders. John is a former all-star basketball player; he has been playing since the age of five. John received plenty of basketball scholarships for high school all the way through college. He started rapping at the age of 16 just for fun. John started taking hip-hop music serious at the age of 18. The art of hip-hop was introduce to him by his cousin Tone Status and the two later came into agreement to formed a hip-hop duo called A-Fam. A-Fam was an acronym for Alston Family, and they were an official group for a year and a half. John and Tone put out a local mix tape entitled “Family Matters”. Distribution to place on the streets with hand to hand sells, and sold about 500 units. A-Fam performed at plenty of clubs and local community shows to promote and enhance their skill. After schedules began to conflict the duo decided to go their separate ways. John started his solo project in February 2006 after recording only two songs. He began performing at clubs, lounges, and recreation centers getting a local buzz around the Tri-State. In mid- March of 2006 he auditioned for 106 N Park’s “Wild Out Wednesday” and made it pass the audition. In between time he was completing his mix tape "THE VOICE OF VICTORY" to distribute to streets, stores, and shop around to record labels. The performance on 106 n Park went perfect as far as good exposure. It went well and the National publicity of BET television helped his rap career.
