BACKGROUND Artist, composer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, not necessarily in that order, has worked with many best-selling artists, but his natural intelligence led him to distrust the workings of the industry as he chose to keep his musical integrity. ”This puppet couldn’t play to anybody else’s strings” he reflects Born Durrell Ivandro Jadir Jacinto in Mozambique in ’78 from a family of musicians, he spent most of his life in the street. This forged the fiercely independent and self-reliant personality of a survivor. He started writing songs in his early days of high school, inspired by seeing his uncles performing during the 80;s in Maputo. He subsequently studied music to gain solid fundamentals for his passion. He combines a typical African good-natured spirit with the most self-confidence and drive. Among his peers he commands a growing respect and a bit of a musical prophet status. Naturally, expectations are high to hear the outcome of a pathfinder’s efforts. Long time in the making, Steadyrock’s turns has finally arrived. STYLE In a kwaito and hip-hop dominated SA scene, Steadyrock!’s music is melody-driven rock, with undeniable African influences and a dash of reggae and hip-hip. His singing reveals a strong musical intuition and unique personality: “does not sound like anybody else” . It brings a desperately needed dose of freshness and unconventionality to the music fans. This is definitely no TV- contest formula. Locally, Steadyrock!s music crosses over easily to the “white” audience, and back again to the masses, which are starting to warm to rock roots and guitars. This is an introduction to the steadyrock era. THE ALBUM: ONE WORLD CITIZEN The CD title refers to the blurring borders and the uselessness of countries for individuals. It is a direct challenge to the twin evils of nationalism and racism, which still keep Africa enslaved to its rulers. Steadyrock! and his music, on the other hand, are truly global, by nature and by choice. 13 tracks full of variety and new musical ideas, which range from pop-rock tracks (“Rock on” & “Best dayz”) to the instrumental (Acoustic Soul); heavy reggae influences (“Here, Now & Then”) to poetic, content-heavy lyrics which almost sound like prayers (“Woman” , “People of all colours”) and repentant moody bluesy guitar love songs (“For you I’m everything”, “Nothing compares 2 U”) With collaboration too numerous to mention (properly credit in the CD in-lay) this album is almost a group effort of African talent, under the guidance of the guru of “the new sound that is coming over”. Watch out for Cosmiq and Snazz D features (“Favourite song” and “Superstaz”) respectively. “One World Citizen” has the sound, look and feel of a classic, one of those debut alums in which you can almost hear every song has been tried and tested by time, it has finally made it to the CD. Welcome to the new sound of Steadyrock! Issued by: An Army of One
