My real name is James David Johnson Jr. and I was born in Monroe, La. and since I was five years old I've loved to sing. I was eleven years old when I joined my first school choir and after that I joined school choirs at every level from Berg Jones Lane Elementary to Neville High School. Later, in college at Northeast La. University of which I graduated in Criminal Justice I performed in talent shows and Greek shows. As time went on and more people started hearing about me and my voice I was asked to sing in a group called D'Juce of which I did a three song single in 1998. Unfornatunately, the two other guys in the group decided to get more involved in rap music and I decided to keep working on R&B music; therefore I decided to embark on my own solo CD, but before I started on it I had to have a stage name; so, I turned my first name backwards and called myself, Semaj. Later, in 1999, god blessed me financially and physically to complete my first CD called Semaj "Here it is" The Album. Afterwards, because I wanted to show my growth in music, I completed a second CD called Semaj "I'm Ready"; so with the help of God I pray to be able to continue bringing the world beautiful music.
