Born in Queens NY but raised in Washington DC, I expanded my musical ear while in high school; tenth grade to be exact. I began playing instruments such as the piano, electric/bass/acoustic guitar, and the drums but did not find myself as satisfied. Then I thought to myself, What part of music makes me happy? Then I remembered when I bought my first music cassette. It was the Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz debut album. I would recited every song verbatim every time I played their tape. I did the same for every album following; even when I finally made the switch to compact discs finally. Then the day came when I decided to write my own lyrics instead of reciting someone else's material. It was about a page and a half long (not sure how many bars) and was very basic. It was the story of my first days in high school as a senior (If I can find it, I'll type it up and post it on here as a blog). After getting so much positive feedback from all of my friends and family members, I knew that this is what I needed to do. I started out writing gospel rap lyrics and was a part of a Christian rap group called Christ Soldiers at the church that I used to attend. The group had a good run and lasted for about a year or two and we toured different churches delivering our musical ministry. The group, unfortunately, came to end because it was hard for people to accept rapping inside of a churchs doors. However, this did not stop my lyrical drive. During my Junior year in High School I became associated with a group called The Lyricist Lounge. This group consisted of students who expressed themselves through hip hop, poetry, and rhythm and blues. This group ceased by the end of that school year due to the transferring of the only teacher who supported it. In the beginning of my senior year, I revived this group with the help of two other classmates and recruited two teachers to help sponsor it (Ms. L and Ms. B I love you both!!!). Later that year I created a radio show in the mornings and developed a fanbase across most of the high schools in DC. But that wasn't all. During The Lyricist Lounge era, I was also a part of a rap group called Regulataz. I parted this group in the year of 2007 in pursuit of solo success. Since then, I've performed in cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Virginia Beach, and my home base...Washington, DC. I also hit the battle rap scene pretty hard; doing sketches for Smack DVD!, Streetz Society Magazine, and many others. Hip Hop is my life. My goal is to bring back the true definition of the genre...which seems to be fading away day by day, song by song, entertainer by entertainer. If you're with me...STAND UP!!! Sincerly Yours, The Lyricist Phorze
