Bio
Rocket was born Chimere Sermon-Kelly on June 23, 1981. At three months she would mimic a series of musical notes that her grandmother would hum to her. By the age of one, Rocket would sing songs; her favorite to sing was "Juicy Fruit “by Ashford and Simpson. At age eleven, led her first solo, while singing “There is Hope” she felt something she never felt before. This particular song made her cry and before the end of the song the whole church was in tears. When she talked to her grandmother later that night, she explained to her it was the power of God; and her voice was a gift from God that she had to use for his glory. When Rocket turned thirteen, her life took a turn for the worst from the decision her grandmother made to move back to Florida. Rocket stopped going to church, turned to the streets, drugs, sex, and violence. The next year at age fourteen, Rocket was kicked out her mother’s house because of her violent behavior. She was taken in by her aunt. She stayed there for a year and was allowed to come back home the following year, but under one condition; Rocket had to join the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. Having a Big Sister changed Rocket’s life. She began to get good grades in school and desired more in life, than being this “hood star.” In 1999, Rocket graduated high school. She became a data entry clerk in Washington D.C. However, she was still unhappy. Rocket wanted to see the world, so she joined the army with the hopes that her boyfriend of three years would marry her. Surprisingly, he was upset about her decision to join the military and tried to kill her. This caused Rocket to leave early to go to basic training. She was stationed in Korea, where she met her husband. They got married a year later. She was sent to Iraq two years later upon return she received orders to go back in eight months. On her second tour of Iraq, she spent a lot of time alone. Rapping the latest songs that were on the radio, her favorite rappers were Jay Z, Lil Kim, Biggie, and TuPac. She was fascinated by their lavious lifestyles and what seemed to be a happy life. She would imagine herself rapping and being in videos. She was determined that she would be the next hottest female rapper at any cost. She became a firm believer in living the life she was rapping about, which consisted of a “hood lifestyle.” Rockets’ life changed. She was having problems in her marriage. She became involved in a homosexual relationship that lasted two years. She was stationed in VA, where she joined Hebron Cornerstone Church International. Finally, after thirteen years Rocket came back to Christ. She was delivered from all strongholds in her life. Once again tragedy hit, her husband was killed in a motorcycle accident. This caused Rocket to draw closer to God and to have an intimate relationship with Holy Sprit. She has dedicated her life to reaching the lost and being an inspiration to the youth by living a Godly example.
