[b]Jalani Patterson was born in Bronx, NY on March 14, 1984. Raised in Central Islip, Long Island, NY, he was able to explore and experience new things that shaped him in to the artist he is today. Growing up, Jalani would hear his mother and older brother singing around the house. Jalani spent his time trying to harmonize them and at the age of 12, after singing the National Anthem at a school event he realized he could hold a note. Jalani's driving force to pursue his music was his grandmother, the late Willie Mae Patterson. She constantly encouraged him saying, “ Never let anything stop you from pursuing your dreams.” She became his inspiration to chase the dream. In 1998 she passed away and left Jalani feeling like his family was broken.. In the summer of 2006, both Jalani and Jamel attended the American Idol auditions. Jalani says, “ I had the opportunity to sing in the first round of auditions.” He didn't make it to Hollywood but did have the opportunity to meet some very talented people. After his American Idol experience Jalani decided he wanted to explore music on his own. From then on he began to work with several different rappers and singers. Since then Jalani has recorded his 1st album titled “This ain't just music” which is available now. As an artist, Jalani has been influenced by artists such as R.Kelly, Jagged Edge, Ginuwine, and Ne-Yo. Jalani wants to give the world a taste of what he's got and try to express himself through his music. Jalani continues his musical journey today as he records his 2nd album titled “Private Affair” coming Summer 2010. [/b]
