Ta-Ta, born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey as Vera Talisha Boatwright, started singing at five years old. At 12, while in middle school listening to a boy downgrade females in his rhymes, something within Ta-Ta sparked. She started battling the boy with her own rhyme, joking about his appearance, and, in that moment, Ta-Ta found her flow and an MC was born. Through her teens, Ta-Ta knew she needed to find someone who could teach her more about music and its art form. Ta-Ta worked with various managers, producers and singing and rapping groups, gaining a street buzz and earning a reputation for being a very skilled and talented MC. Ta-Ta also began to study the art form of hip hop and its origins, learning about b-boys, graffiti, and how the first MCs started. One day, Ta-Ta met singer, songwriter, producer, and studio engineer Seth Alexander who was impressed with the precision and intensity of her rapping, something he had not heard before. “Not only is Ta-Ta talented, Alexander said, “but I could see she had the preparedness of a professional. When I listen to Ta-Ta's lyrics, I hear a unique perspective on things and I believe that perspective comes from an inner confidence. Seth signed Ta-Ta to his independent label, A&G Records, and since working with Seth, Ta-Ta has achieved international recognition and acclaim by winning the first Queen Latifah Award for Hip Hop, the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for Best Hip Hop Song and, from Just Plain Folks (the largest international music awards organization recognizing independent artists), Best Rap Album for her first album "Never Forget" (executive produced by Seth), Best Rap Video for "Everybody Come Out" and Best Rap Album for the soon-to-be released "One Woman Army". Ta-Ta is neither hesitant nor afraid to face the challenges presented in a mainly male-dominated genre.
