Bio
Very few artists can lay claim to being a natural-born talent. J. Karma is one of those talented few. With confidence, presence and lyric-driven dexterity that belie his age, this multi-talented 23-year-old phenomenon is the real deal. J. Karma has already made a name for himself as a producer and engineer. Opening his self-built studio to friends and starving artist allowed him to hone his skills as a producer, taking other artists under his wing and producing their records. But the one thing he never lost sight of was achieving his lifelong dream: to be an artist. Now that dream is coming true with the release of "Love Jones," J. Karma's debut album on his independent label, University Records. "His songwriting holds meaning beyond his years," says Kevin Jackson, president of University Records, who first met J. Karma when he was 15 years old. "Between the universal appeal of his songwriting and his dapper appeal to the ladies, he's a special talent." Setting the pace for the forthcoming album is lead single "My Girl". Available July 26th on iTunes, the percolating pop/R&B/hip-hop infused dance track provides the perfect backdrop for J. Karma's fresh, engaging tenor—and fittingly delivers on the ear-arresting promise of his future singles, "One Chance" and "All Of That." The new single also showcases another aspect of J. Karma's many talents: he co-wrote and co-produced "My Girl," on which he infectiously proclaims, "When this song comes on, the party will jump!" Partying isn’t the only thing on J. Karma's mind. "Love Jones" also offers up a balanced mix of slow and mid-tempo R&B/pop tracks produced by such hitmakers as Vybe Beatz, Chris Mecca, and JasDeep. With expressive lyrics that effortlessly convey each song's mood, J. Karma takes listeners on a relatable journey that covers everything from the start of a simple relationship, thru commitment and being in love, to heart-ache and pain. One such example is "It Feels Like…," a classically styled song reminiscent of Michael Jackson. It's a simple story about a guy trying to express how he truly feels about his woman. "It's a song that reflects me," says J. Karma. "Trying to find and hold on to the right person means so much especially because it's so hard to come by these days”. His honey-sweet tenor subtly powers "What It Do," featuring Chris Brown, in which he pursues his special girl against a thunderous drum-filled chorus. J. Karma's heartfelt angst pierces through on the mid-tempo, ballad-styled "Turn My Heart Back On," before he bounces back on the exuberant "Angel." "I recorded this album around the movie ‘Love Jones’," says J. Karma. "And that's what this album is about; love and life: the good and bad days; life's ups and down. At the end of the day, we all have a 'Love Jones.'" A Southern Indiana native who plays keyboards, J. Karma has been writing for as long as he can remember. His career-defining moment occurred at the tender age of 14 when the heretofore shy J. Karma surprised his friends—and himself—when performed his first concert in front of more than 5,000 people! "I performed my heart out and broke out of my shell," recalls J. Karma. During this period of recording and performing; through all the turmoil of getting notoriety for his true talents; from the ups, to the downs, to the many disappointments that many up-and-coming artists’ on the rise face, the ever-so-humble J. Karma has come back full circle to where he originally started: being a true artist. "I love music so much and now I'm realizing my dream," says J. Karma. "I'm ready to give my fans something that will last." There's no doubt about it. J. Karma is getting ready! “I am on a quest to make that special woman “My Girl”! Will you be that girl? .
