I am Nubia Emmon: A singer, songwriter, rapper and dancer. I sing R&B, Hip Hop & Pop. Born in the “Capital of Live Music” –Austin, Texas – music flows through me; I am a distant cousin of Mahalia Jackson, my father grew up performing in an R&B band along with his brothers and sisters and my Mom dabbled in singing background with a few bands. This innate love for music and constantly being in the presence of my family’s artistry was passed on to me and I started singing by the time I was 3. At 7 I formed my first group – “5BC”, (5 Best Cousins) and we sang and performed dance routines I choreographed at family events and various school talent shows. By 7th grade, 5BC had dissolved but I continued singing and grew to love songwriting. By now I widened my performances beyond school talent shows to community events, and major events such as a SXSW show and I performed along with Boys II Men, Latoya Luckett, and Cameo at the Texas Urban Music Festival. since then, I’ve performed in various cities in Texas, also in New York, Atlanta, and Phoenix. I am a solo artist but I can and have performed in duets and with live bands. I also love to do collaborations and completed a remix of the track “Dancing Machine” with Def Jam’s recording artist, Lil Niqo. I realize what it takes: sacrifice and hard work and whether I am working in the studio, at shows, in the community or with other artist, my dream is to become a world class performer/entertainer. I am grateful to my listening fans and wish to give thanks to Austin’s KAZI (FM-88.7) who voted me #1 in three categories; “Best Radio R&B Artist, Best Female Radio Song (Burn), and Best Female R&B Live 2012” at the KAZI Radio Showcase Awards in December, 2012. Recently I placed first in the New York Indalab Makin History” Showcase (September, 2013), and I won top honors at the HipHop Seazons #5 Showcase in New York (November, 2013). One of my signature projects is the “Pretty Girls that Rock the Mic” concert series. The purpose is to raise awareness for breast cancer and to showcase the talent and diversity among female artists in Texas. Inspired by my Mother’s fight with breast cancer, we’ve already held our first show in 2012. This event was not only very successful but has led to a partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer, Austin Affiliate. I plan to use my talent in music to give back to my community through The Nubia Emmon Foundation, which focuses on building healthy relationships within families, motivating and serving youth and supporting healthy lifestyles. I have adopted Winn Elementary School where I attended as a child and I plan to volunteer and bring in resources for the students. I graduated high school this past year (Class of 2012!), and was accepted into the Sarah & Ernest Butler School of Music summer program on a scholarship which I completed in July, 2012.
