J2 1986. A village by the name of Fatikchari in Chittagong, Bangladesh celebrated the birth of a son in a family of five daughters. Who didn’t just take him to be a mere boy, but in such a poor community where money, power, respect and inevitable crime were the pillars of life, he was to be their protector. Bangladesh birthed him, but since 1991 the streets of ‘the big N. 1. 9’ raised him. Zaine took the road of most teenagers in north London and without doubt he’s grades plummeted. Although his mentality remained cultural, respectful and honest, his attitude did not. The weight of his community, friends and family came down on him and a future for Zaine seemed almost uncertain. ‘Portrayed as a failure, and a menace to all Sixteen and I was doped up, forced the grip go…’ 2002 saw the rebirth. The young and dedicated Zaine went on to become J2, his alter ego who helped him see the world differently. He felt as if he was a glitch in the system of life because he was the only one awake. Breaking all the rules of asian culture and being honest about all the things we as respective people try to hide, made Zaine feel alive. Zaine let go of all emotions and feelings he felt held him back. Living his life with no rules, no limits, no borders and no regrets Zaine felt untouchable by life itself. ‘What I am puts a whole lot of fight onto my shoulders. Visualise boulders because what they want I’m older is a robot just following culture…’ In 2004, Zaine took his hobby as a rapper to another level. A launch party and various local events created fans all over North London. Performances at the London ICA and the New Orleans Hall expanded his ability to work the stage. Working with agencies such as Dream Arts also helped him attract a larger crowd and helped him proceed towards his goal. A performance at the Imperial Bar had a small record label wanting to sign him the very same night but unfortunately didn’t work out due to contract agreements. The lyrics, the production skills and the flows blew them away, but Zaine’s biggest goal wasn’t just for fame and the hip-hop crown. It was to conquer the hearts of people. Invade their minds with his lyrics and take them for a trip through his thoughts and beliefs. ‘The music is exactly what he wants it to be.
