What a long strange trip it has been, from the days I first picked up a guitar while stationed at Charleston AFB, SC. Thanks to Jim Lander, I picked it up and have continued to maintain my mediocrity by design. Through the years I have had the pleasure to play with folks with many different skill levels and abilities, but regardless it has always been a rewarding experience for all those involved. On this site is a compilation of many of the experiments in music. Forgive me please, if These songs are not as you remember, but I truly believe that interpretation of songs can differ from person to person. Some are originals, and even though I composed these songs There has always been a difference each time they are played. Special thanks goes to my brother Bryan Tobias whose encouragement and abilities are shown on songs like Paradise, which is the first song I wrote while on vacation in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. and Without You. Also Dal Klingler and Daniel Alcutt who for a period of a few years helped make up DDT. Also during this period, Dal and I along with Pete and Mike (sorry bout the last names) joined to form Bridgeview in Portland, Oregon where we were not exactly a garage band but more of a storage facility band. So to those who I have had the opportunity to play and collaborate with I say Thanks. Hopefully more will come, but for now this is a compilation from the late 1970s to early in the 21st century. The name Stern originates from the early days when we called ourselves Stern Burnout and the Stoned Ponies. With little imagination I'm sure you can figure out where the name came from. As we got a little better (please understand that while I still have recordings from this period I have NOT included any) we changed to Stern Flurry and the Blizzard Kids. Those days have long since passed, but I or should I say we have been diligent (literally recording everything we ever tried). Fortunately, I have been able to digitize all of it, even what is terrible still has some humor and brings back memories of days gone by. Recording mediums have been everything from a portable cassette player in the late 70's to digital formats available today. I have tried to mix down and make these songs worth listening too and as I do listen, I can usually remember who, when and where they were recorded. I have also included a song written by myself and my son Quinn for his performance at the Satyricon in Portland, Oregon. This song is Sauce Town Killas. From my friend and fellow teacher in Salem, Mark Vandenbrocke is 'Prize Fighter', one of several collaborations we did. Ohe of these days I'll add a discography listing all participants and giving credit where it is due.
