Anyone who was following the live music scene in the SE of England in the 90s will be pleased to hear MORE MUSHROOMS VICAR'S best songs can be heard on this site and are now available for free downloads on myspace.com. Downloads may be possible in the near future on here too. Eastbourne's top band, they played all over the area from 1993-97, had a substantial following, got countless plugs on BBC radio One, were voted the "Best named unsigned band" by DJ Steve Wright - but still remained unsigned. Putting this music in the public domain has been a long-awaited project, especially now with the passing away of Paul Ray, the much loved original drummer. [b]More Mushrooms Vicar? Basic line-up: Duncan Pope (vocal, sax, harp), John Kitcher (guitar), Steve Young (Keyboards), Rod Brown (bass), Sacha Holloway (guitar), Paul Ray (drums). [Fenny (3.58)- from 'Another Cup Me Lord' 1995 studio EP. Phil on drums. Happy, bouncy country romance. Mr Spliff (6.19)- Recorded live on DAT at Images nightclub, Eastbourne, 2nd May 1993. Original line-up. Eccentric ska. Great guitar licks and tongue in cheek lyrics. Their most requested encore. Geisha Boy (5.39)- From 'The Demo' studio recording 1996. Bev replaces Duncan on vocal, Trevor Wallace on keyboard, Phil on drums, no Steve or Sach. Originally 'Geisha Girl' for Duncan. Sexy vocal and bass. Celtic Dream (7.44)- Recorded live on DAT at the 'Bay Hotel' Pevensey Bay August 1994. Eddie Smithson on drums. A Scottish jig, or lark? Totally improvised vocal in middle 8. Interesting jam finale. El Dorado (7.29)- Recorded live on DAT at Saffrons Sports Club, Eastbourne, 17th April 1993. Original line-up. One of the earliest gigged songs. Superb guitar duet between John and Sach - at times demonic. Gotta Leave You (6.10)- From Polegate Stud Farm rehearsal (DAT) tapes Jan-Feb 1994. Barry on skeleton kit - no symbols. Highlight: funky guitar and vocal tour de force. Duncan and Sach splitting up on CD? All songs copyright More Mushrooms Vicar? 1993-1997 Digital editing: Simon Kunath Studio Tracks recorded at Pilot Studios, Hastings, East Sussex.
