Not so long ago I had the opportunity to join Art and the Meters on stage at Tipitina's.We treated the crowd to a the funkiest version of " Life's A Bitch ". On the CD "Bayou Self" I play a 1969 Ovation Legend and a1972 Martin twelve-string (slide-guitar) through a 1965 Fender Pro Reverb (vintage). I utilize a back-sliding technique introduced to me by Sonny Landreth. SOOOOOO....COOOOOOL......! ! ! ! ! ! "Bayou Self" was recorded at Rick Naiser's "Festival Studios" in New Orleans. Upbeat songs, uplifting ballads, entertaining and relaxing , or so I am told. My latest project, temporarily interupted by hurricane Katrrina, will be out soon. Drumming legends Johnny Vidacovich (Professor Longhair & Astral Project) and Harold Brown (WAR & LOW-RIDERS) are helping out, as well as a wide assortment of great local talent, new pioneers. I haven't received any Grammy nominations, but some of these guys have! Experience: I grew up in New Orleans where the music, like the people and the food, is spicy and diverse. The same sounds that inspired Bob Marley, the Rolling Stones, and according to the great Ernie K-Doe, all modern popular music, began at Cosmo's and Toussaint's venerable studios, just blocks away from where I went to high school @ St. Aloysius in the famous French Quarter. Down the street Dr John (then Mac Rebenack) was playiing guitar at the time not piano- with the R&B stars of the 50's & 60's, Fats, Frogman, & Earl King just to name a few. Stephen Stills and Iimmy Buffet weren't famous yet, and were developing their styles around the musical gumbo at Pappa Joe's on Bourbon St, and the Seven Seas, a rough seaman's hangout just off Decatur St. I've played in most of the maior venues in N.O. including House of Blues, Tip's, Tyler's Beer Garden, Muddy Water's,etc, but where I really cut my teeth as a singer-songwriter was at a liitle hole in the wall club in the Quarters called the "No Name Bar", located on St. Peter St, just across the street from the world famous Preservation Hall and Pat O'Brian's. Also, I must acknowledge the Penny Post Coffeehouse, one of the first venues in N.O. dedicated to poets & singer-songwriters. It's still around, though the name's been changed to the Neutral Ground Coffeehouseto protect the innocent. You can hear some great local artists, as well as touring songwriters, getting their musical ya-ya's there. I've had some kick-ass bands along the way as well." Mad Dog Blues Blues Band " rocked the debutant scene in the 70's, and "Even Stephen" was going strong prior to Katrina. We're planning a European tour in the near future. I play guitar, rhythm and lead, acoustic (1908 The Gibson L-2, '69 Ovation Legend, '50's &'60's Gibsons, and electric '64 SG, '80's The Strat, '40's L-5, Dobro & mandelin, lap steel, and banjo, and write in many styles. I'm still learning and plan to keep on growing. Welcome to my musical world
