Who Is Eddie Brock? Born to a war-fleeing, Assyrian-Iraqi family, Eddie spent his youth trying to lead a positive life in the infamous Rexdale community of Toronto, Canada. With aspirations to be an Information/Graphic Designer at first, the streets pulled Eddie into a life of gang violence and drug trafficking. Regardless of his situation though, young Brock would always find time to write down his life experiences and escape all the negativity through poetry. Having two older brothers leading him in the 80's Hip-Hop scene, it was inevitable for Eddie Brock to finally put his poetry to music and start recording. He recorded his first track at the age of 14, and began accepting 'street battles' in his neighbourhood on the side. Eddie's name eventually broke out into the rest of the city when his music earned campus radio rotation (Ill Kidz on CHRY 105.5 FM, Dropping Dimes on CKLN 88.1 FM, and 89.5 FM's Project Bounce show with DJ Ritz & Nation). As his fan-base grew, dedicated supporters demanded to see Eddie Brock perform live for them. Sure enough, in the fall of 2003, Eddie booked his first local show at the "In Divine Style" artist showcase (Gypsy Co-op and The Hooch, 817 Queen St. W.). His explosive performance opened the door to Eddie Brock's first taste of Hip-Hop money, earning $50 while the other acts had to pay to get in and perform. Not only was he paid for his performance, but he was also given a rave review from Toronto’s underground CurbSide Magazine: "18/10/03 - This past week, In Divine Style hosted a large crowd... The first cat to perform on Thursday was Eddie Brock. Accompanied by a large amount of crew members, Eddie rocked a crowded stage for the crowded floor at The Hooch. High-energy rhymes were just part of his over abundant arsenal of rhymologics." Feeling comfortable on stage, comfortable with fans screaming and yelling his name, Eddie Brock continued to perform at local venues for experience. Filling seats in the night time, Eddie spent most of his days writing, producing, and collecting tracks in hopes to release a debut, promotional mixtape project. Having amassed almost 10 years of material, from his first few amateur tracks to more recent ones, Eddie joined forces with 89.5 FM's DJ Ritz and independently unleashed "We Are Venom, The Mixtape" on the streets of Toronto in 2006. Word spread quickly, and the release became an instant success in the underground world of Hip-Hop (even making national and international online sales). The Rich Kidd produced single, "Hip-Hop Needs Me" made it to the famous www.HipHopCanada.com "Choice Cuts" audio section for fan voting, where it was later selected by FLOW 93.5 FM to be aired on its OTA-Live segment, weeks in a row. Since then, Eddie Brock has been busy writing and producing his debut album, and working on side projects with close friend (and 2006 Serato DJ Battle champion) DJ Wristpect. In a city where Hip-Hop business has only recently started to bloom, Eddie Brock is one of very few unsigned rappers whose name can be, and is in fact, mentioned alongside Canada's top new acts. Most recently a featured artist on DJ Wristpect's "Bridging The Gap V1 | Toronto to NYC" mixtape (hosted by Grafh of Blackhand Entertainment, 2006) Eddie shares the stage with some of Canada's most famous Hip-Hop recording artists (Kardinal Offishal, Choclair, Saukrates, Drake and JD Era) as he delivers the Toronto version of Jay-Z's "Where I'm From" street anthem. The track stood out so much, that DJ Wristpect demanded another Eddie Brock exclusive for his upcoming 2007 "Bridging The Gap" series sequel, this time crossing borders to Chicago, in association with Rawkus Records, and hosted by Rawkus Records recording artist Naledge (of Kidz In The Hall). Eddie once again finds himself in the midst of big Canadian names (Point Blank, Daetona and Arabesque) and also big American names (Common Sense, Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco). Time and time again, an independent Eddie Brock proves that he is equal to, or greater than many accomplished artists, even though he doesn't have the privilege of major label support, marketing/promotional teams or distribution.
