There are so many excellent arrangements to choose from, as well as writing your own originals, but he says “a persons voice is unique in sound and quality and needs to be paired up with the right songs for him or her“. He believes he has something to offer in song and music, and realizes not everyone is going to appreciate him. That’s o.k. with him, because there is such a diversity in audiences, and everyone needs to find his or her own niche. Born into a family of musicians, music had always played a part in Gerry’s life, though it didn’t become a driving issue until he was 30 years old and saw the likes of The Eagles, John Denver, Gerry Rafferty, Leo Kotke and many more on Dave Kirshner’s popular “In Concert” in the summer of 1974. Though he realizes himself to be a late bloomer in the music field, his love of the music drives him to seek out even higher achievements as he advances in knowledge and skills. Driver was exposed to drums, organ and Clarinet in his youth, but not until he picked up a guitar did he connect with a new enthusiasm. Later in years he found, with a lot of practice, he could sing . Then an opportunity presented itself for him to learn piano. Now he combines the best of the three to perform ear pleasing arrangements in his diversified style. His advice to any aspiring musician would be to hook up with a good music, and voice teacher, and spend consistent years learning different styles and techniques. Frequent jam sessions to get a feel for playing, or singing, with other performers. Try different instruments to get a ‘rounded’ knowledge for the later arranging that may be desired. Don’t let anyone tell you that “you can’t play an instrument or sing”, everyone started out sounding terrible at some point. The world is full of people who are more than willing to try to steal your dream away from you. Don’t let your looks, age, sex, lack of skills or anything else discourage you. That’s why we have teachers, tutors , mentors and close friends: to help us along the way. Then if later you decide it’s not for you, it’s your decision, not someone else’s. Most of all, he says “enjoy yourself, and enjoy the music”. Contact at: [email protected][b
