Introducing: Nickelis Nova Raise the curtains, the “Swag of the Streets” a.k.a. the “Prince of Newark” is here. His name: Nick (Nickelis) Nova. Nick simply means a precise moment and therefore, Nova has come in the “nick” of time to bring Jersey back to the forefront of hip-hop. Why not? After all he is Nova, a new star which makes his appearance suddenly then grows gradually. By the looks of it, he has gradually done just that. Nova is one of your five-tool artists displaying a remarkable flow full of versatility which only makes the Napoleon-sized star larger than life. Nova was born and raised in Newark, NJ (a.k.a. da Bricks) as Nassor N. Jessie, 22, and has always been looked at differently in the eyes of his hood. “I was a flashy kid,” smiled Nova. “Nothing else, I was just better equipped. I didn’t always apply myself which opened me up for criticism, but I made my bed, you dig?” Nova never wanted to be average, he was always thinking outside of the box. It was never a white tee and Air Forces for Nova, it was a Polo and Lacoste. “Dudes hate you when you do your own thing and show hella Bravado doing it,” implied Nova. “I just wasn’t feeling the whole gangsta trend everyone else was on.” Although he is a slick-talker who spits metaphorically street at times, he manages to also offer his listeners a new element: perspective. He not only speaks on his altercations on the streets and moments of being a drug peddler, but he also speaks about the passing of his father and sister, love and lust for women, his life in high school (University High), his downfall in college (Norfolk State, William Patterson, and Essex County), politics and his troublesome ways in the grind. “I’ve got issues just like the next person, but I just want to speak on them because I know I’m not the only one dealing with these issues. Today, with plenty of support from his group/movement, “The Senate” and Founder/Producer of the Jersey establishment “Heat Beat” Ali Montana, the confident swag of Nick Nova shines brighter than ya grandma’s halo. He has done work with countless producers in Newark including Home Boy/ Hassmatic, Roc, and Mischief Productions. He has been on numerous mix-tapes including his own solo mix-tape entitled “The Swag of the Streets,” where he has made a name for himself as one of the prominent young lyricists in the city of Newark. Nova is also an entrepreneur at heart. He plans on launching his very own company called Star Status Entertainment which he says “will not be just music.
