Born in Derby, England, the distinguished musical career of Marcia Ball began at the tender age of six, while receiving vocal training from her mother. At the time, mom was the main singer in the family, with Marcia and her sister providing backup vocals. Her childhood was influenced by different genres of music that was played in the home. In 1976, the family-formed group named “Rumbling Express” migrated to Florida and in 1982 the band went through changes and was later called “The Love and Desire Band” but the band disbanded a year later. Marcia’s dream of pursing a solo career never ceased. In 1982 while in high school, she entered a talent contest and won the first place trophy. When Star Search came to South Florida in 1985, Marcia again took first place. Her first single called “Tell Me” was released in 1990 on Rooney Records and this song was performed to a crowd of approximately ten thousand people at Miami’s Marine Stadium. Her second single “Only You” on BPM Records was released in 1993. Marcia Ball has worked with the best of the best in the reggae industry such as Dennis Brown, Michael Rose, Nadine Sutherland, George Nooks, Tinga Stewart, Hopeton Lindo, Glen Washington, Dean Frazier, Bob Andy, Roger Robin, Donna Marie, Annette Brissett, J.C. Lodge, Marcia Griffiths, Admiral Bailey, Barrington Levy, Freddie McGregor, Professor Nuts, Taurus Riley and many more. In the early part of 2003, Marcia launched a new single called “Drive Me Crazy,” arranged by Dr. Paul and produced by Rupert Graham (Silver Dove Records) and her present manager Althea Brown (Popsgirl Production). In the latter part of 2003 her first album “Right on Time” produced by John Samuels of Tabbath Production was released. With her second album, “Choices and Changes”, Marcia Ball seems poised to stir the very essence of soul music. These songs will speak to both those who have loved and lost. The music ranges from sensual lover’s rock theme to searing soulful ballads. “I really want this album to take people away from reality to a sensual place where they are comfortable, relaxed,” says Marcia, “I think the songs will put a restless spirit at ease for a while.” Marcia Ball strives to perform good music, which stands the test of time and is enjoyed by a broad range of people. She is an all round performer whose live sets are delivered with great passion and desire. Ask anyone about Marcia Ball and they will say that she is the reggae version of Phyllis Hyman. Her vocals have been compared to the late R&B/Jazz songstress especially when you hear her song “For Granted” from her upcoming album “Choices & Changes” Marcia comprises all of the elements necessary to be successful. With her drive, ambition, intelligence, creativity and generosity, with all these winning combination, she can’t go wrong!!
