[/link] It all begun in December of 1997 when the underground mixtape king, DJ Grinch, stumbled upon raw talent possessed by a fourteen (14) year old kid growing up in an affluent community of musicians, singers and songwriters. He called himself Young Mecca. His talents and abilities were quickly noticed by everyone around him for this teenager was getting Hip-Hop recognized, not only in his hometown of Laborie, but also on local St. Lucian radio with his debut single “Punk Daddy” which was recorded and released in September of 1998. Now in his early twenties, this prolific rapper/songwriter/engineer, paints vivid pictures with lyrics and music like a modern day Picasso and delivers his inspirational messages ever so sweetly through his unique vocal expressions. Young Mecca has added a new twist to a Hip-Hop genre that already contains some Caribbean genes. His culturally influential style has allowed him to make hip-hop his own by fusing various musical styles together with dynamic developing skills allowing him to create a secure place for himself in the very competitive hip-hop market. His witty mannerisms of communicating even the simplest sentences with the use of metaphors and other figures of speech have gotten him praise by many who appreciate good, well put together lyrics, and as a result, they often refer to him as “The New Shakespeare.” Though every musical piece is different, it is quite evident that Young Mecca’s artistry is “real” and his voice, flow and musical style is prominent on every track that he produces, thus allowing him to stand out among the cluster of hip hop artists known. As an individual growing up with dreams of becoming a musical icon, Young Mecca has acquired many skills to help propel him in achieving his goals. He has every intention of succeeding in whatever he does and won’t stop until he obtains his every desire. With Wyclef Jean as his main inspiration, Young Mecca is truly a god-send and the world should look out for him in the near future. But, hey! We can't stop here. There's more to say. St. Lucia was moved by the hit song "Impossible" produced by Sherwin "Dupes" Brice and featured Young Mecca. "Impossible" topped at #1 on "The Wave's Top 5 at Five" for close to 3 weeks. Young Mecca in one of the GYMR music group members, a group that also claims the talents of Dupes and Shepp Dawg. This group has been known for many local hits on the radio station, whether it be their vocals of their production. Now, its almost impossible to hear Shepp and not recognize Mecca or Dupes. This music family has undoubtedly survived against all odds and has become a prolific and professional industry for the trio. Some people often wonder whether this kid wonder is going to remove the 'young' before the "mecca" since he's work falls into the category of veteran professionals. This kid's good. And what makes it better, is that the music family (GYMR) is now producing music for many other talented young artistes who hold their own with the musical "floetry" biz. This is a Shepp, Dupes & Mecca game. And now, they are bringing the youth together into a realm that they have tested and critically acclaimed with chart-topping music. St. Lucia, support your own.
