Kevin Haynes Jazz Musician Percussionist, Afro Caribbean, Nigerian Yoruba drummer, founder of Egbe oduniyi productions Haynes, is an established Afro jazz musician on the world stage, producer and music educator, 1987 Kevin Haynes performed his first jazz gig as a percussionist with the flautist Phil Bent and his band. After a few shows with P.il\'s band saxophonist Steve Williamson asked Haynes to do some shows with his band. Haynes worked with the Wiliamson band from 1987 to 1993. During those 5 years Kevin started to meet and perform with other young and older jazz musicians in London. Those include: Clifford Jarvis, Ed Jones, The Jazz Warriors, Ed Bently, Jean Toussaint, Alan Weeks, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Courtney Pine, Clade Deppa, Orphy Robinson, Alex Wilson, David Jean-Baptist, Roger Boujale, David Puttman, Wiliam Cumberbache and many more In 1995 Haynes went to New York and spent some time studying and playing with Felipe Villamil and his group Emikeke. This legendary ensemble had been founded in the 1950s in the town of Matanza, which is considered the cradle of Afro-Cuban traditions. Haynes has been performing all forms jazz and African/Caribbean music for 19 years he Kevin Began his musical careers first as a percussionist performing Afro Brazilian styles of music and dance with a group named A Rosea de Londres, a Afro Brazilian drumming and dance company. Kevin learned the fundamentals of playing of Afro Caribbean/ Afro/Latin with Baba Sher an Afro Brazilian master drummer, singer and dancer of the Brazilian version of Orisha, Ambanda Maracatu, and Samba styles. Baba Sher was based in the UK in the late 80s. The group collaborated with other afro Caribbean dance companies from Cuba, this is where, Kevin was first introduced to bata drums when one of the group come with some Bata drums In the 90s and beyond Kevin went to Cuba and the US and learned the fundamentals of playing Afro Cuban percussion & bata drumming with Amando Abaui, Regino jimenes, Angelo Bolanos, Octabiyo, Rodrigues, Filipe Garcia Villamil, Jesus Alfonso Miri, Gali. In 2002 Kevin made a trip to Nigeria and learned some of basic fundamentals of playing Nigerian bata drumming and singing orikki Orisha songs with master bata drummer Rabui Anyandokun and Saki Anyandokun in Oshogbo state .In June 2003 kevin went back to Cuba and made the ceremony of the spiritual washing of the hands so as to play on the ceremonial consecrated bata drums and rituals for the orisha which was made in the house of Angel Pedro Bolanos in Central Havana with his bata set named Ana Fumi, present at the ceremony was Armando Abailli, Ferim Nani sucarras, Israel Oliva Rodrigues, Nilo Pelayo. Alto saxophonist and percussionist specializing in playing Bata drums conga drums from Cuba and Bata drums from Nigeria, i\'m also the writer and producer of all the music. I’ve been working with Grupo Elegua Band for 10 years now and the band has toured the UK & Europe.
