[link="http://www.myspace.com/sleepercurve"]Sleepercurve[/link] are a band with depth. If you're after the musical equivalent of a one-night stand, then you'd better look elsewhere. Named after the term used by US science writer Steven Johnson to describe the idea of popular culture being beneficial to an individual's cognitive development, this new south London-based trio describe their music as 'dystopian space rock' - taking influences that range from contemporary bands like Interpol, Elbow and Biffy Clyro to classic pop and alt-rock such as Depeche Mode, Soundgarden and the Smashing Pumpkins, with cinematic soundscapes inspired by 70’s / 80’s dystopian epics Logan’s Run and Blade Runner thrown in for good measure. The end result is dark, expansive and often abrasive – yet also accessible, with groove-laden songs like ‘Suffer in Silence’ and ‘Vultures’, geared as much towards moving your feet as engaging your brain. A quick listen to their demo which was recorded over a weekend escape to Wigan, shows they’re musical perfectionists. But, more importantly, they can recreate that sound live as they’ve already proven at club nights across the capital such as Dirty Bingo, Fake ID and the crazily eclectic Lost Sunday, which is run by guitarist-singer Dan once a month at the Windmill Brixton.
