More than a year ago, Lady Mck began laying tracks and hitting the studio in hopes that her debut album release would be a success. With life lessons and experiences set to smooth beats and rhythms straight from the Dirty South – Lady Mck’s “Live & Learn” is what street dreams are made of – and well worth the wait. About the killer album….. The first single on the CD, “Down South Bounce”, has everything a club song is made of and the twist of Dirty South pride to keep the South … well, bouncing. “I knew this song made me wanna bounce, because that’s what we do in the South,” Lady Mck said. “Whether we’re Jiggalatin’, Doin’ the Ratchet, Bunny Hoppin, even the South’s version of the Electric Slide and the Harlem Shuffle has a bounce to it.” As the first beat drops on “Down South Bounce,” it’s clear that the song is the South’s hood answer to Fat Joe’s “Lean Back.” Adding some male-induced flavor to the cut are Mr. Homerun, Lady Mck’s brother-in-law, and album producer Playa-D. “I have to show mad love to Playa-D for what he did to this album. He didn’t try to mold my music into what he wanted it to be he just let me be me,” Lady Mck said. “Like I said in one of my songs ‘he had a vision and she had a dream, when they put it together people couldn’t handle the team.’ I couldn’t have asked for a better producer.” During some of her performances, Lady Mck said she has seen the power of “Down South Bounce” and the reaction of the audience, and even her two daughters, pushed her to make the song the CD’s first single. “It’s a hot song! Everyone loves a song you can dance to. You can’t help but to dance to this song,” she said. “It’s like as soon as the beat drops you have to move; plus my daughters love it.” So far, “Down South Bounce” has lit up the radio airwaves on Texas and Louisiana stations, including The Breeze 107.1, Magic 102.5, 97.9 The Box and The Vibe 105. While her first single adds some club fun to the album, for Lady Mck, the most powerful track on the 20-song album has to be “Slow Down”, a song dedicated to the youth of our area and worldwide who are headed down the wrong paths in life. “So many times you hear about or know someone, usually someone young, who is just trying to live too fast. Most of the time, they end up in some trouble and it’s just a waste,” she said. “We have so many people in this area with real talent, people who could go places in life, but they get caught up in the wrong things. This song is really about slowing down before it’s too late.” Actually, track after track on Lady Mck’s album boasts some education and schooling the Port Arthur native can pass on to anyone going through any situation. Whether looking to find a way out of a bad relationship or simply needing some inspiration to get through another day, the “Nu Queen of the South” has a little bit of something in each song that can truly add some clarity to blurry circumstances. Mck said she uses her songs to express herself in depth and keeps her conversation short and to the point. Her album, she said, deals with the trials and tribulations faced into adulthood. She’s ALREADY on the scene… If you hadn’t already heard of Lady Mck, maybe your mailing address is “UNDER A ROCK” in Port Arthur, Texas. Not only has she performed on local radio stations and television shows, but the wife and mother of two has also been featured on several songs from other local artists, including Playa-D, and a number of songs on upcoming albums of more Texas artists. She even displayed her talent for thousands at the Southeast Texas State Fair in 2006 and at album release parties for Playa-D and Lil’ Keke and more. If that doesn’t ring any bells for you, perhaps you’ve read her column, “Love For Hip-Hop” in the Port Arthur News, where she brings artists from all over the nation, especially the local artists, into the spotlight. In just a few years, “Love For Hip-Hop” has become the Southeast Texas roundtable of discussion and Mck even receives letters from readers ALL OVER THE NATION regarding her column, its artists and the material she discusses in each new piece. Through her column, Mck said she reconnected with an old high school friend and rap artist, Playa-D. Remembering the skills Mck displayed while walking the halls of Thomas Jefferson High School, Playa-D decided to make her his newest artist on his label, Santiboti Records. Since that time, Lady Mck has hit the scene with electric live performances including the first Hip-Hop Showcase in Southeast Texas Mardi Gras history where she performed in front of more than one thousand people. Keeping her feet on the ground…. While she knows her style is hot, Lady Mck says all her abilities are “God’s work” and has been given the title of “Nu Queen of the South”, in association with one of her songs on “Live & Learn,” “Nu Queen”. While making and promoting her album, Mck has still been bringing local artists into the regional spotlight through her column and even doing pro-bono work for a few area artists including nationally-known rap artist, Big Boo. Through the album’s hot beats and Southern edge that has got the whole nation ready for the Third Coast, a meaning shines through Lady Mck’s tracks. For Mck, the album delivers a message of understanding and even more importantly, the idea that mistakes are meant made and learned from. “Mistake are just a part of life. You are supposed to learn from your mistakes to keep your life on the right path,” Lady Mck said. “So many people make these silly mistakes over-and-over again, without a clue of the lesson their supposed to be learning. If me and my music can have a positive impact on at least one person, I feel like what I’m doing isn’t in vain.” While her message is clear in many tracks … you won’t forget the reason you bought her album. While bobbing your head and jamming to each track, you’ll have to admit – the message just sounds too good.
