Born in St. Louis, MO on the notorious SouthSide, Mimi was always a soldier. Born, Zahmill Manuel, she found her niche in music very easily without guidance. Bobbing her head to Das Efx, Eightball and MJG and the groundbreaking pioneers UGK, she knew that music was destined to be in her future. She started writing raps with her twin brother, now incarcerated in the most notorious prison in Missouri, Jefferson City Correctional Center. At the age of 12, she was a standout while at track meets rapping. She started jacking beats early. "The first beat I jacked was DJ Quik's "Born and Raised In Compton," says Mimi. "I mean we would have track meets so I would try to make music relevant to what we were going through at the time and everyone would tell me that I had a gift." A gift it was indeed. In 1997 she signed her first recording contract with Vibehaus Records, a St. Louis based company. She, her sister Keisha Kali (formerly of Nazir with national recording artist Ebony Eyes) and their god sister Andria Washington called the group DVS. "Back then, I went by Vynimm because I was the hard spitter of the group. My sister went by Devine because she was so smooth with her flow and Andria just went by Suga because she was too sweet. I mean she never even cussed!!" After performing citywide they were on the fast track to success. "We was even doing shows when Nelly was trying to blow up shit," says MiMi. "Back then they were ALL the St Lunatics but we had a show with them at Cloud 9 and we ripped that shit!" Things started going downhill fast so discouraged and ready to quit Mimi went back to college and the group disbanded. After two years of college and another 5 years in the Army she made her return to music. "It was always my first love," she states with such passion. "I did a mixtape in Texas and they was all on it and I brought it back to St Louis and moved in with my mom and ended up kicking it with Top Dolla(The AllStars). "That nigga like a brotha to me!" Now its 2007, with 2 mixtapes, 1 solo Cd, a past record deal and a shit load of talent she is ready to take on the world. "I dont care who doesn't believe in me," she states. "When Im in that booth, its only me. When Im paying for that time, its only me. So why the fuck would I care what someone thought?" "The industry just aint ready for a woman with my caliber yet because Im not talking about sucking dick and letting you hit it from the back, instead Im rapping on a niggaz level. I dont even battle females. I say what niggaz say, Im trying to get to that bitch and that booty too, fuck all that!" The world will see me one day. I guarantee it.
